Free online e-safety ‘healthcheck’ How does your school measure up?
W
ith the latest guidance from Ofsted making it very clear that all inspections will now have a focus on e-safety, and the internet presenting an ever-evolving platform of social media tools used by children and young people, it’s little wonder that e-safety is an increasing area of concern for schools.
To help schools to understand where they stand in relation to Ofsted e- safety requirements, educational ICT specialist Fantastict has launched a 13-question e-safety healthcheck. Taking just a couple of minutes to complete, answers to the healthcheck will generate a ‘health’ score for the school, alongside a series of recommendations in terms of what needs to be done to bring provision up to the required standard. In addition to asking questions around what e-safety policies and procedures are already in place, the healthcheck takes into account staff CPD and training, e-safety tuition for students and the understanding of the issue among parents/carers and school leadership; all key elements of Ofsted e-safety inspections, as Fantastict’s Education Director, Joe Basketts, explains: “Ofsted has made it very clear that e-safety inspections will go far beyond simply checking that a school has the right policies and procedures in place, and will include conversation with pupils and opinion gathered from Parent View. This means that schools need to look beyond simply teaching e-safety in the classroom and ensure that not only pupils but staff, governers, school leaders and parents all accounted for understand the issues and their responsibilities.
“Our e-safety healthcheck has been designed to allow schools to answer some very simple yes/no questions and find out not only how they currently perform in terms of e-safety, but receive comprehensive advice in terms of what action they need to take to come up to scratch; whether significant improvement is required or the school is already at a standard where we would recommend training for EPICT accreditation.”
