ulton’s flue gas Economiser for its gas and dual-fuel-fired horizontal RBC
boiler range can provide fuel savings of up to 5% and in a typical installation, achieve payback in less than a year. The Economiser operates in the same
way as a heat exchanger. By capturing the waste heat inherent in flue gases and transferring it to the boiler feedwater, the feedwater temperature increases from approximately 85° to 120°. Because this takes place on the positive side of the feed pump there is no cavitation effect and the flue gas energy does not have to be applied by the boiler. Depending on the steam application the Economiser can either reduce the fuel consumption of a boiler at a given steam output or increase steam output for a given amount of fuel. Fulton’s new modulating burner uses a linkageless burner management system to operate two modulating actuators. One regulating the flow of gas and the other adjusting air flow to ensure that optimum combustion is possible across the full firing range of the boiler. Initial results from a Cardiff University
trial indicate significant reductions in gas consumption with further savings being made on electricity. Thanks to the burners’ modulation the boiler is more efficient as steam pressure is kept at a more consistent rate.

PRECISE PRESSURE CONTROL Fulton’s ModSync sequencing system is designed to maximise the efficiency of multiple steam and hot water boiler installations by providing precise pressure control of the steam system using a pressure transducer installed in the steam header. It is also capable of precise temperature control and lead/lag sequencing on hot water boiler systems. An integrated setback schedule allows the boiler system setpoint to be configured based on the boiler’s current status which allows the setpoint to be lowered during periods when steam load is reduced such as evenings or weekends. The company’s TDS blowdown, energy recovery system is designed to increase boiler efficiency and reduce demand on services/utilities which in turn reduces fuel, water and effluent bills. back into the steam system. This process raises the temperature of the feed water directly to the boiler and cold make-up to the hotwell tank. It can boost the boiler feed water temperature up to 100°C which helps to prolong the life of the boiler by reducing the pressure drop and thermal shock on the pressure vessel experienced when relatively cold water is added to the boiler.
