40 Years of Progress


Over the past 40 years, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada has been leading the way in research to develop more effective treatments and to find the cures. Since 1974, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s national research program has funded:


• more than $88 million in IBD research


• more than 338 grants that teach us more about preventing, diagnosing and treating Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis


• two Chairships at University of Calgary and McMaster University (one in IBD Research and the latest in ulcerative colitis) establishing them as internationally- recognized centres of excellence in IBD research


• more than 342 student awards, studentships, and fellowships beginning their careers in order to foster the next generation of IBD scientists


• 10 young investigators, establishing promising researchers to build greater capacity, promote creativity and engage more researchers


• 8 research scientist and visiting scientist awards


• innovative research where investigators test new theories and pursue promising new leads in the global search for better treatments and a cure for IBD
