REQ IAN MC CRACKEN: SECURING A RENEWABLE FUEL SUPPLY

The importance of choosing a secure fuel supply

F

ollowing the ambitious targets set by the UK government to lower carbon emissions by 2020, businesses have begun to include steps for reducing

their ‘carbon footprint’ in their yearly agendas. The Government’s aim is to motivate companies and organisations to adopt more sustainable means of heating and powering their facilities. Subsequent industry specific goals are being set across the country to help meet the EU’s mandate to reduce the UK’s carbon emissions by 20% by the year 2020. These carbon reduction goals paired with the growing awareness of the finite supply of fossil fuels has resulted in fuels, including locally-sourced biomass, soaring in popularity. With the help of the government’s commercial Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), the popularity of biomass, including wood pellet fuel, is continuing to grow among businesses of all sizes in GB and Northern Ireland. However, as more and more organisations adopt sustainable fuels, we are urging biomass adopters to consider locking- in a secure fuel supply for the duration of the RHI to ensure that they are never without

Ian McCracken, Business Development Director at Balcas

- GB and Ireland’s largest wood pellet manufacturer and supplier, discusses the issues surrounding switching for companies as they change to renewable energy

fuel, no matter how high demand might grow. As the popularity of renewable fuels

continues to skyrocket, it is especially important that adopters keep security of supply in mind when choosing their long- term supply. It is predicted that as demand grows, the market will see a significant influx

of lower-quality fuels manufactured outside the UK. Therefore the best way to ensure that your investment is being looked after and you are obtaining maximum performance from your biomass boiler investment is to make sure that you are not only burning a premium quality wood pellet fuel, but also that that fuel will be available to you for the long-term. Not only do premium quality biomass fuels

like brites wood pellets enable customers to make significant savings through the RHI, they also help organisations meet their environmental obligations. Over 4,000 customers already use brites for their heating and hot water requirements including hospitals, schools, hotels, leisure centres, office buildings, manufacturing plants, religious institutions, fire stations and prisons. Burning brites makes good business sense because the fuel delivers clear financial savings as well as reducing your business’s reliance on fossil fuels. In some cases customers can save up to a third on their energy bills by switching to brites fuel, but switching also means that they can play their part in being more energy efficient
