Harriet Green leaves Cook after just two years
Staff paid the price I can’t believe the staff paid [the price] for Green’s slash-and- burn culture. The only good thing is she helped a lot of talented people find new, more successful, better paid jobs – by making them redundant. l Quietly Thankful
Had no choice A shame. She led a great turnaround. I know she’s not been universally popular but she was left with no choice but to take bold, possibly harsh, decisions which should have been taken by [former chief executive] Manny Fontenla-Novoa a few years ago. I actually think the retail cuts didn’t go far enough and more fat could have been lost. The airline needs a massive overhaul, and fast. l Womanny
Cook values indies Harriet ‘the hatchet’ upset a lot of people but did a great job to a very worthy company. I still love Thomas Cook for realising independent agents are an important part of their turnaround, unlike that other company beginning with T! l Jenny
City bought myth It was all a PR myth which was bought by the City. I can’t see that she has future-proofed Thomas Cook. I’m sure Peter Fankhauser is a hell of a lot more capable of running the business – whether he can create the same amount of PR spin is another matter. l AGuest
Bonus wasted Green will be more than happy with the bonus/ payoff that we all know
she is getting. That money would have been better spent on the staff and stores without making many talented people redundant. l jantelbr1
She did a good job I actually think Harriet Green did a good job with Thomas Cook. They were on a shaky nail before she took the reins. l Jordan
She should pay staff She should give some of her money to the staff she has wiped out. Cook is going to sink and she has done nothing to save it. l Doreen

£25? You joking?
LETTERS OF THE WEEK
Story: Midcounties Co-operative trials £25 service charge
Are you joking me, Alistair [Rowland]? I work for Midcounties and it’s hard enough getting a client to book with us even now, let alone having another £25 to make us more expensive still than other companies. l Iain
It is a brave and bold move and I really hope it comes off so that it educates the public to understand there is a value in receiving good advice, even ‘just’ for holidays. l Matt Stuart
It is a good idea in principle but I think it needs tweaking. Instead of a fee for admin, it should be for researching and planning the holiday. Most customers can fill in a form correctly; finding the right holiday takes knowledge and experience. The fee should highlight the agent’s travel expertise, not their admin skills. l John Guinn
