G Adventures signs deal to sell small group tours through Thomas Cook
Juliet Dennis
G Adventures has signed a major distribution deal with Thomas Cook to become its preferred supplier of small group tours. It is the first time the adventure company’s tours will be actively promoted through Cook under the G Adventures brand. As well as Cook, the operator has also struck commercial agreements with
independent agency groups Travel Counsellors and Hays Travel. The new deals are predicted to significantly increase G Adventure’s UK trade sales, already up 40% year on year. Founder Bruce Poon Tip described the deal to become Cook’s preferred supplier of small adventure tours as a “huge break” in the UK market. “We have begun to get bookings and have seen great

through Cook agencies in other countries, it has only ever sold through its UK shops by supplying product to operator Neilson, which Thomas Cook sold to Risk Capital Partners in November 2013. “It’s been a natural progression for us,” added Poon Tip. The new deals have resulted in G Adventures increasing the size of its call centre by 30% to handle the increase in calls, moving offices to larger premises in Clerkenwell, London, and taking on a former Thomas Cook employee to
work with agents. Emily Watson started as a global purpose specialist in July. She will train agents on the product range. “We will find out which
agents have higher potential for us. Some will book one tour a year others will book more,” Watson said. The operator will
