BY ALAN ORBELL THE re-started twice-weekly
Air
Seychelles service from Paris (each Friday and Sunday) is hoped to be a pre-cursor to a revised London service to Seychelles according to Alain St Ange, Seychelles Minister of Tourism. “We wanted to be back in Europe because people obviously prefer the most direct route and Paris is a step in the right direction. “However, we also have four flights
every day from Dubai and Abu Dhabi with Emirates and Etihad and this gives visitors the chance to enjoy- two-centre stays.” Seychelles is also planning to strengthen its ‘Another World’ branding. Said St Ange: “For years we’ve been telling people that
Seychelles is another world but we want to say more clearly what another world is. We have the best beaches and climate but we want visitors to appreciate the diversity of our culture, our people, our food and the ability to feel totally at ease. We’ve understated this in the past.” Seychelles will add to its portfolio
of upscale hotels with the opening of a Six Senses Zil Pasyon resort with 30 villas and 17 private residences on the private Félicité Island in mid- 2015 and the islands’ fifth Carnaval International de Victoria will be staged on April 24, 2015. UK visitors to Seychelles have already topped 10,000 this year, a 2% decrease on 2013 but a 12% increase on 2012.

Iceland enjoys a UK surge
THE UK now supplies more tourists to Iceland than any other country after numbers rose by 34%,
year on year, between
January and September this year. Over 127,000 Brits
visited
Iceland in the period and future growth looks likely after easyJet launched a new direct service to Reykjavik from Gatwick in October. A Belfast flight will start this month (December), while Flybe will start flying from Birmingham in June and Icelandair will
commence flights from the airport in February. From next summer Wow Air will fly three times a week
from Dublin.
Iceland’s hotel stock was boosted by the 45-room Apotek, which opened in Reykjavik in October. Promote Iceland is running a trade workshop in London on January 29, in conjunction with partners from Estonia, Finland and Greenland. Agents who wish to attend can find more details on the
visiticeland.com website.
