his October, Exclusive Collections Seaport Village Gallery is hosting a group sculpture show, featuring artists Victor Douieb, Tuan, Paul B. Lotz, Joseph Quillan, Loet Vanderveen, and David Wight. Each artist is as unique as the medium in which he or she sculpts, revealing their passions and beliefs through a form that encompasses the three-dimensionality of an inspiring world.
Victor Douieb
Long time scuba diver Victor Douieb was raised in Paris and has lived and worked in Los Angeles for many years now. After personally witnessing a Hammerhead shark while diving, Victor began sculpting sharks as a means of expressing his appreciation of this perfectly evolved creature’s pure simplicity. His wish is to bring attention to the impact of overfishing and the slaughter by the shark fin industry worldwide. In addition to sharks and other sea life, his collection also includes endangered wildlife cast in bronze as well as gleaming stainless steel.

Vanderveen has lived a life as vibrant as the animal sculptures he creates. He traveled the world as a fashion designer in the 1940s, working alongside Dior and other notables. He was introduced to ceramics by Fong Chow, the creator of the Far Eastern Department of the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Vanderveen began experimenting with patinas and Chinese glazing techniques shortly after his time with Dior. Drawing on inspiration from his childhood, he continues to sculpt in his 90s, bringing to life the unique characteristics of the animals he witnessed as a child at his neighborhood zoo.
