PRODUCT RESOURCE FILE TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION
HyprCool® EMSCO, Inc.’s HyprCool®
takes advantage of what is already there. hybrid process cooling system
utilizes an adiabatic wetted cooling unit for water system heat rejection.
Te HyprCool® system combines the advantages of dry air cooling systems in the winter months and the advantages of fluid cooling systems in the summer months to provide highly effective heat rejection for industrial processes. Te hybrid approach releases a fine mist spray into the air prior to contacting the copper cooling tubes which lowers air tem- perature and increases the heat rejection capacity of the unit. Te control system cycles individual fans as process water and ambient temperatures dictate and ultimately activates the water spray mist when warranted. During the colder months water mist spray activation is not required and the unit operates as a dry air cooler, eliminating sump freezing and dangerous ice buildup common with fluid coolers.
The Facts
Tis system reduces electrical consumption and significantly reduces water usage when compared with a fluid cooler. Te “V” shaped design condenses the footprint compared with a typical dry air cooling tower saving valuable real estate.

The above comparison is based on an actual customer application in the New England area of the US. System calculations are based upon induction melt system operation at 20 hours/day with 60% utilization and 75% heat rejection equipment utilization. Savings may vary based on heat load and location.
The Logic
Te technology used in EMSCO’s HyprCool® system was born in Europe in response to widespread regulations aimed at eliminating one of the most common breeding grounds for Legionella bacteria: evaporative cooling towers. In the United States, where Legionnaires Disease was first identi- fied, regulations vary from locality to locality and from state to state. OSHA has issued a number of guidelines but no specific regulation as of this writing. Estimates are that no fewer than 50,000 cases of infection caused by Legionella are

reported annually, with 40% to 60% identified as occupa- tional in origin. Te HyprCool® system eliminates standing water in favor of a fully closed coolant path and the intermittent one-time use of fresh water to augment the system’s cooling capacity only on the hottest days of the year. Tis is one of those rare cases where regulation has given rise to a lower-cost and more effective solution to a problem. EMSCO’s HyprCool® system introduces superior technology that costs less to operate and has a lower capital investment than systems which pose a greater risk to your employees and to the environment. It is the smart way to cool your heat-generating processes.
