One year to go – get ready for ErP

IT’S ALMOST A YEAR since I took over as editor of HVR and it has struck me in my conversations with senior managers of various H&V companies what an important time we are going through with significant legislative changes taking place affecting the industry. Many of these changes are linked to the quest

for energy efficiency and the Government’s stringent carbon reduction targets. The fact that it is September now means it is

only a year to go before the next part of Energy Related Product Directive (ErP) is due to be implemented. This means that this is going to be an incredibly busy time year ahead for commercial

(and residential) H&V companies because they need to be ready for the changes to take effect. From what I undestand of the ErP Directive any

product that does not meet certain efficiency requirements will not get a CE Mark and then cannot be legally sold, and secondly, every space and water heater will get an efficiency rating G to A+++. I have spoken to some boiler manufacturers

who are on top of things and are ready to install a range of replacement products and here’s hoping this is the rule, rather than the exception. This month we are running our annual Commercial Boiler Supplement in which we have asked several boiler manufacturers about their thoughts on the changes ahead and the outlook for the future. The supplement is inserted in the centre of this issue and is a must read. 
