Products and contracts Bitzer optimises CR capacity control system

BITZER has optimised its proven CR capacity control system by adding blocked suction and with the new CRII system. BITZER offers a whole new level of flexibility with the option to adjust the operation of ECOLINE compressors in line with operating conditions.

Depending on these conditions and refrigerant, a special control algorithm allows compressors to be infinitely adjusted. With the CRII, BITZER has achieved an exceptionally wide range of control between 10 and 100% for four and six-cylinder compressors. The increased switching frequency ensures smaller fluctuations in controlled value, temperature and pressure. In combination with the expanded range of control, this optimises system efficiency. Compressors are available with the CRII cylinder heads pre-installed. The CRII system is also backwards compatible and available for retrofitting to the ECOLINE four to eight cylinders models including 4FES-3(Y) to 6FE-50(Y) as well as the two external cylinder banks in the 8GE-50(Y) to 8FE-70(Y) compressors.  

Remote control via Smartphone Wireless home automation specialist LightwaveRF has announced a new element to its Connect family of wireless ‘Smart Home’ products, enabling accurate monitoring and control of domestic heating systems using a Smartphone, Tablet or PC. The system allows users to set up, monitor and control boiler on/off times, individual room temperatures and even the temperature of ‘zones’ through the house, from anywhere in the world using the Internet. This system will enable home owners to maximise heating efficiency and save on heating costs. Using the LightwaveRF Smartphone app or computer-based management software heating can be turned off or down in unoccupied rooms, and bedrooms can be heated independently. LightwaveRF’s Connect portfolio of home automation products includes switches,

sockets, dimmers and relays to control almost any electrical equipment. Specialised heating devices now include boiler controls, thermostats, thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) all of which have wireless connectivity and Internet access via any broadband router. ☎   

Mikrofill at Kenbrook Nursing home

Kenbrook nursing home provides 24 hour specialist nursing and dementia care for over 50 residents in the pleasant residential area of Wembley Park, North London.

In need of a new heating and hot water installation Mikrofill provided 3 Ethos 130kW condensing boilers c/w Mikrovent low loss header/air and dirt separator and 1 unvented 500 litre Extreme HWS loading cylinder. The new boilers provide

heating throughout the building in addition to indirect LPHW to the cylinder. The new loading system ensures the Ethos boilers operate in condensing mode whilst producing in excess of 2000 litres of hot water per hour.

The new installation was skilfully installed by long standing mechanical contractor Promech Services Ltd of Essex. 

Naco, a brand of Ruskin Air Management, has launched a range of storm louvres providing the highest level of weather protection for buildings and plant in a shallower profile to ease fitting in a wide range of applications. The DB50 range meets the most stringent test criteria for wind driven rain protection and provides ideal pressure drop performance all within a shallow 51mm extruded aluminium frame that eases fitting in narrow window units and other restricted wall spaces.

The optimum blade pitch minimises the penetration of wind-driven rain, reducing damage and additional operating expenses. The use of extruded aluminium reduces maintenance costs and provides high resistance to corrosion. Being a slim unit it is quicker and cheaper to manufacture making it one of the most competitive products on the market, without compromising performance. The DB50 has been tested to meet standards set by the industry’s international body the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA). Naco’s louvres have passed AMCA’s 500-L Wind-Driven Rain Penetration test and the performance specifications are verified by the association’s Publication 511. 

ELCO UK, formerly MHS Boilers, has supplied two gas-fired GB6- 12 ENERGATOR® CHP units, two 145kW THISION L wall mounted boilers and three INOX-MAXI single coil cylinders to the new Qbic Hotel in Whitechapel, London. The installation was part of the complete refurbishment of an empty office building, incorporating a range of renewable energies in order to achieve a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating.

Consisting of 171 bedrooms, the hotel’s unique concept is created around the Cubi: a prefabricated room which arrives flat-packed from China and can be assembled in a day. All Cubis are connected to the building’s main M&E services, with the heating and hot water provided by the ENERGATOR® CHP and THISION L boilers. The ENERGATOR® range of CHP units comprises six gas-fuelled models and six oil- fuelled models. Units in the range are capable of supplying electrical generation up to 49kW and thermal outputs up to 90kW – perfect for reducing primary energy use in a variety of commercial applications. 

 Direct storage vessel range extended

Boiler and water heater manufacturer Lochinvar has extended its range of LST direct storage vessels with the addition of larger capacity models. LST direct storage vessels have been used for many years with the company’s circulating-type water heaters, including the EcoForce, EcoKnight and TTW condensing ranges, which offer hot water recovery rates from 709 to 9,912 litres per hour. There are now 10 models in the LST range with storage capacities from 312 to 2,820 litres and these units can also be installed with packaged plate heat exchangers, where a buffer storage capacity is often required to meet peak hot water demand. The concept of circulating type water heaters and direct storage vessels has been a popular choice for medium and large commercial projects and also industrial applications for many years. The ability to have water heater/storage vessel combinations can provide a flexible solution particularly where plant room space is restricted. The LST range can also be fitted with electric immersion heaters to provide an alternative fuel back-up. . Standing heat losses are low and can help in achieving a high BREEAM rating. Each LST vessel is fitted with a 100mm ‘clean out’ opening accessible from the front of the casing.  

Remeha Gas 610 Eco Pro boilers are providing energy-saving warmth and comfort at one of London’s most exciting new residential developments, the new Riverlight apartments. Riverlight consists of six pavilions situated on the riverfront in Nine Elms, on the South Bank. Four Remeha Gas 610-8 section boilers were specified by Rotary Building Services to meet the high efficiencies and low carbon and NOx emissions stipulated in the brief by property firm St James. With a combined total output of almost 4,000kW, the Remeha boilers are working in tandem with ground source heat pumps that provide chilled water and preheat the LTHW, and a CHP unit to deliver reliable, environmentally-friendly heating from a central energy centre to the development’s 806 apartments and penthouses.

The Remeha Gas 610 Eco Pro range delivers higher than average annual efficiencies of 109.35% NCV and ultra-low NOx and carbon emissions. The fully-assembled, free- standing, fully-modulating, high-efficiency, gas-fired condensing boilers are available with outputs from 69 to 1202kW. This ‘renewable-ready’ range can be connected with both CHP units and renewable technologies for maximum efficiency. ☎   

Condensing boilers for care home The Avondale Mental Care home in Liverpool is a 50 bedded registered mental nursing home that provides care, support and rehabilitation for adults with a range of mental health related issues.

©iStock.com When first built the centre was fitted with Atlantic

Boiler’s ‘Optimagaz’ and ‘Condensagaz’ E Series gas condensing boilers. The centre has just undergone a complete refurbishment and two of these long life boilers have been replaced by the latest technology. Two VF 100kW pre-mix low NOX gas condensing boilers are computer-controlled and programmed for continuous comfort and maximum economy. The advanced method of control allows the reduction in boilerplant and energy input. The changeover was designed by Rodney Environmental Consultants of Liverpool and carried out by J J Rhodes & Sons of Ainsdale. The VF 100 boiler is wall-mounted, constructed entirely of austenitic stainless steel with a seasonal efficiency of 94% GCV throughout its modulating range of 25kW to 100kW. It is very quiet in operation and easy to lift into position. Up to four boilers can be erected and operated together.  ☎     
