AVX announces broad offering of stacked SMPS MLCCs rated to 200°C

NTC chip brings accurate temperature measurement to robotic assemblies and military telecom systems

Ametherm has introduced four new series of NTC chip thermistors for high-accuracy temperature measurement. Recently acquired from RTI Electronics Inc., the STC0134-X, STC0138-X, STC0143, and STC0144-X series devices are available in a variety of compact sizes, while providing fast response times and high- temperature operation to +150 °C.

The NTC chip thermistors have been designed to deliver highly repeatable performance for temperature monitoring and compensation in hybrid circuits for ICs in robotic assemblies and military telecom systems. For increased reliability, the devices' electrode surface is available in gold to prevent oxidation. Providing a high-stability replacement for leaded small-disc thermistors, STC0134-X, STC0138-X, STC0143, and STC0144-X series devices experience minimal drift from their initial electrical values. Available in sizes as small as 0.50 mm by 0.50 mm by 0.43 mm, the components feature resistance at 25 °C from

100 Ω to 5000 Ω, tolerance down to ± 5%, and beta from 3,000 K to 3,523 K. The thermistors are suitable for solder reflow assembly or gluing with epoxy.

Samples and production quantities of the NTC chip thermistors are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks.

AVX Corporation has extended its high temperature SMX Series stacked SMPS MLCCs with the addition of new 25V ratings in case sizes 3-5 and 500V ratings in every case size (1- 6). According to the company this makes it the broadest offering of stacked SMPS MLCCs rated to 200°C currently available in the industry. Providing several significant advantages over both typical MIL-qualified MLCCs (which are only rated to 125°C) and comparable wet tantalum capacitors, SMX Series MLCCs exhibit excellent high frequency performance, exceptional capacitance retention with frequency, high current handling capabilities, a wide frequency response in high pulse, high current applications, and low ESR, ESL, and DC leakage. Specifically designed for use in high temperature, harsh environment applications up to 200°C, SMX Series stacked SMPS MLCCs are constructed using high temperature solder and exhibit rugged thermal shock, mechanical shock, moisture resistance, and vibration resistance capabilities per MIL-STD-202. SMX Series capacitors are ideal for use in down-hole oil, gas, and mineral exploration equipment, including geophysical and geothermal probes, seismic sensors, and signal amplifiers. The series is suitable for use in military, defence, and weapons systems; space and satellite communications equipment; automotive underhood and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) applications; and rugged AC/DC power converters (e.g., those that supply AC power from onshore power grids to offshore oil platforms).

Latest series of precision thin film chip resistor arrays features gold terminations for conductive gluing

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new series of precision thin film chip resistor arrays featuring gold terminations for conductive gluing. Offering two integrated resistors on one substrate, the ACAS 0606 ATAU resistor array combines high-temperature operation to 155 °C with relative tolerance down to ±0.05 % and relative TCR down to ±5 ppm/K. ACAS 0606 ATAU resistor arrays are intended to enable significantly more accurate performance than two high-precision discrete resistors, and their small 1.5 mm by 1.6 mm package enables the design of high-density circuits. The devices offer two equal or different resistance values from 100 Ω to 150 kΩ, with a maximum resistance ratio of 1:20. In addition to excellent high-temperature performance, the ACAS 0606 ATAU series is extremely robust against harsh environmental

conditions and provides superior moisture resistivity. The device offers 1000 V ESD capability, a 75 V operating voltage, and maximum rated dissipation to 0.125 W per element. For automotive applications, the resistors are qualified according to AEC-Q200. The new resistor arrays are suited for precision analogue circuits, voltage dividers, feedback circuits, and signal conditioning applications that require extraordinarily stable fixed resistor ratios. Typical application fields will include automotive electronics, including engine control units, gear box controls, safety, power supply electronics, body electronics, braking systems, and lighting; and industrial electronics, such as energy management, measurement, and control technology.
