IMPROVING QUALITY FOR KOREAN AUTOMOTIVE COMPONENT SUPPLIERS

T

wo Korean automotive component suppliers are using

HepcoMotion Driven Track Systems (DTS) to ensure they meet stringent quality and production requirements for the manufacture of critical components for their customers Kia and Hyundai. The DTS is a versatile track system

that can be accurately positioned so an assembly operation can take place. An improvement in the component quality is as a result of better consistency with respect to the positioning of the carriages. The use of DTS leads to less rejects as the assembly operation produces a ‘right first time’ solution. HepcoMotion DTS has traditionally been used in Korea for the assembly of

B&R is extending its X20 I/O system to include two additional modules - a temperature measurement module with four wire resistance measurement and an energy measurement module with four current inputs for connecting external transformers with a 333mV output.

Up to four platinum PT100 temperature sensors that are complaint with

electronic parts mostly for mobile phone manufacturers, so this development into the automotive industry is likely to impact strongly on HepcoMotion sales in Korea. “Being involved with tier one auto component suppliers will, I am sure, have a positive

impact on our expansion plans in this important Asian industrial sector,” commented Chris Rees, sales director for HepcoMotion. www.hepcomotion.com

IEC 60751 can be connected to the X20ATB312 temperature measurement module using four wire connection technology. Wiring the compact four channel X20 module is done using a X20TB1F 16 pin terminal block. In addition to resistance temperature measurement using PT100 sensors that have a constant current supply for the four wire connections and a resolution of 0.01°C, the module also allows direct resistance measurement and offers the possibility to individually set the filter time. TheX20AP3161 is equipped with three voltage inputs for a maximum of 3 x 480V AC and four current inputs for connecting external current transformers with s 333mV output. The module measures effective, reactive and apparent power individually for each of the three phases and for all of them collectively. The power consumption of each phase and the total sum is also recorded. B&R Industrial Automation www.br-automation.com T: 01733 371 320

Reliability rewarded at the Shan-Jing project

The Shan-Jing Gas Pipeline network is one of China’s key national projects, supplying natural gas from the western province of Shaanxi to the capital city of Beijing. Construction of the first pipeline began in 1992 and by the end of 2010 three pipelines, with a total length of 3000km, had been completed along the same route. Modern, reliable and safe automation

has always been high on the agenda of the Shan-Jing project. For the first pipeline Rotork supplied hundreds of its then new IQ1 intelligent non- intrusive electric valve actuators, sharing the actuation contract with another actuator manufacturer.

In 2004 Rotork IQ2 actuators were specified for the entire second pipeline. Since then, the experience with the IQ1 and IQ2 actuators on both

pipelines has enabled Rotork IQ technology to be specified again for the third pipeline. At the same time, the decision was made to retro-fit new IQ actuators on the

first pipeline to replace the competitor’s actuators. This work will be completed by the

end of 2014, at which time the entire Shan-Jing gas pipeline network will be operated with Rotork IQ intelligent electric actuators, including some of the latest IQ3 models. www.rotork.com

NEW NORTH SEA OIL AND GAS FACILITY

Emerson has broken ground on a new £20m office and service centre at Dyce, Aberdeen, Scotland, to support the North Sea oil and gas industry. The Aberdeen facility is one of a series of new regional service centres Emerson Process Management is opening around the world as part of its ongoing commitment to provide local support, training and services for its customers. The facility will support a range of services and

solutions from both Emerson Process Management and Emerson Network Power. An office accommodating sales and support will be linked to a service centre and provide a customer collaboration suite and meeting facilities. The facility will house Emerson Network Power’s

global training centre for industrial systems, as well as offering its sales, design, project management, commissioning and maintenance services. A lifecycle service centre will support Emerson Process Management customers’ North Sea installations. The fully equipped training centre will further

enhance Emerson Network Power’s capability to manage and deploy accredited engineers for both planned and emergency offshore service support work. Services available from the new centre will include enterprise asset management, engineering and

operations support services, products and systems training and education, total metering management, metrology consulting, and calibration and production data validation. For customers with urgent service needs the centre will also provide repair services and emergency spares. Stuart Brown, general manager, Emerson Process

Management UK and Ireland, commented, “This investment demonstrates our commitment to the growing number of large oil and gas installations in the area that will require lifecycle support to keep their operations running efficiently and profitably.” www.emerson.com

Power Panels Electrical Systems has signed an agreement with pneumatics, fluid power and automation specialist SMC Pneumatics, providing its customer base with added value solutions in electrical, electronic and electro-pneumatic control systems and assemblies. Tony Hague, MD of PP Electrical

Systems, commented, “We have been working closely with SMC for a number of years and the signing of this agreement further strengthens this relationship and signals our intent to jointly use the best components and the best processes in the build of our systems and machines.” www.powerpanels.uk.com

igus is bringing its range of plastic bearings, linear systems, energy chains and cabling assemblies right to its customers’ premises by delivering free specialist on-site demonstrations. This experience enables engineers

to gain knowledge and practical insight on how to apply igus’ products and technologies without leaving their premises. www.igus.co.uk

Ishida Europe recently enjoyed its most successful Interpack ever with the week in Düsseldorf generating in excess of 1,000 quality leads and orders of over €3m secured on the stand. There was strong interest across

the company’s portfolio. Inspection and quality control were a particular area of focus as was the need to maximise efficiencies through effective integration of equipment. www.ishidaeurope.com
