PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE SENSORS FOR DISTANT AND DIFFICULT TO DETECT OBJECTS

Eaton has launched its new E67 Long Range Perfect Prox range of photoelectric sensors which offer machine and system builders a sensing solution for longer distances and demanding applications such as pallet wrapping machines. These long range sensors detect all targets within their sensing range and up to a distance of 2.4m - irrespective of variances in colour, reflectance, contrast or surface shape. This makes the reflective sensors of the E67 series Eaton’s most powerful photoelectric sensors with background rejection. The sensors are manufactured with fixed operating distances between

60cm and 240cm (in = 10cm stages). Thus, the user does not have to define any further settings and the devices are optimally adapted to the specific application requirements. Users therefore, benefit from simple installation and handling, which helps prevent operating errors and reduces down-time. Eaton developed the E67 Long Range Perfect Prox series to meet the

needs of the most demanding photoelectric sensor applications. Eaton’s long range sensors can detect targets that are a challenge, such as flat, black targets, very transparent targets like film, or off-angle targets. The Perfect Prox technology allows for optimal background suppression and reliable operation of the reflex sensors. Furthermore, two LEDs situated at the top of the E67 sensors ensure a clear visible indication of the operating and output status, enabling users to determine immediately whether the sensors are functional or whether they are currently detecting a target. This simplifies the monitoring and maintenance of the devices. The E67 sensors are available in a DC version (18-30V DC) and a version that allows both DC and AC operation (20-132V AC/DC). The purely DC

models are provided with NPN and PNP outputs. The E67 long range sensors come in a fully encapsulated housing with protection to IP67 and are therefore also suitable for operation in harsh environments. Two mounting options allow for flexible installation.

NEW VISION SENSORS

INTRODUCING THE FOXBORO COMPACT 200 SERIES I/O

Schneider Electric has released a new I/O family for its Foxboro Evo process automation system. The Foxboro Compact 200 Series I/O fieldbus modules support more I/O modules in less space, reducing footprint up to 50% and offering cost savings potential. The new FBMs are valuable for new implementations in confined

spaces, such as offshore platforms, and for adding capacity to existing installations without incurring the trouble and cost of facility expansion. Higher density baseplates and optional cabinets contribute further to footprint reduction, which also drives significant savings in weight, energy consumption and inventory over traditional I/O offerings. The Compact 200 Series I/O modules are compatible with multiple generations of Foxboro controllers,

software and infrastructure, and they provide the ability to mix and match I/O types on the same controller. Schneider Electric www.schneider-electric.co.uk T: 0870 608 8 608

Multipix has added to its Datalogic DataVS2 Vision Sensor product family to now include DataVS2 Infrared (IR) models and 1.5 Software Release. DataVS2 IR models feature an

embedded LED illuminator with infrared emission and an ambient light filter able to cut off most of the light coming from the surroundings. These two characteristics allow DataVS2 IR to reduce the influence of environmental factors that are usually very hard to predict. The 1.5 release introduces several

important new functionalities to the DataVS2 GUI configuration software such as QR code reading, Chinese language, sensor setting back-up and simplified inspection downloading.

40 JULY/AUGUST 2014 | AUTOMATION Enter 242 A SHOWCASE FOR NEW INNOVATIONS

The Automatica show, which took place in Munich in June, saw Kistler showcase a new joining system comprising maXYmos NC, the IndraDrive servo amplifier and NC joining modules. The XY monitors from Kistler’s maXYmos series

enable customers to visualise and evaluate production processes – allowing them to operate in a consistent, process integrated manner and to maximise quality assurance. The integrated sequence control enables processes

to be illustrated without the need for external PLC programming. In total, up to 128 programs can be stored, with the option of defining each one with an independent sequence of up to 255 elements. As such, complex processes can be illustrated effectively. The flexible housing concept of maXYmos monitors

allows easy integration into existing or newly developed systems. The maXYmos NC comprises two components - the measuring and evaluation module (MEM) and the display module (DIM). These two

/AUTOMATION

components can either be installed separately or as a compact unit. Moreover, up to eight joining processes can be visualised on the same display. As such, this guarantees flexibility during installation, whilst saving space and contributing towards an optimum cost benefit ratio.
