The summer issue of Commercial Micro Manufacturing brings you a great variety of micro and MEMS-related topics. We try to make each edition of the magazine interesting to all of our readers and cover a great range of different subjects.

In the July/August issue we present to you a feature on photo etching of aluminium, written by Albert Tsang of Precision Micro, and a look at the Micro Systems Vienna facilities, in which we find out more about the company’s lab-on-a-chip capabilities.

Our metrology section in this issue is quite extensive, with case studies on scanning electron microscope from Nikon Metrology and accurate sample measurements from ZEISS.

The amazing high-precision possibilities of hexapods are presented in an article prepared for us by specialists from Physik Instrumente and the University Hospital in Ulm. Our special focus in this issue is on organic and printed electronics and I’m happy to share with you a review of the recent LOPEC Exhibition and Conference. The new and exciting opportunities are also shown in the second article we publish in association with the European Photonics Industry Consortium: Joost van Kerkhof and Douwe Geuzebroek of XiO Photonics in the Netherlands have written a feature on Photonic Integrated Circuits for Visible Light.

The MEMS section presents the results of another MEMS Industry Commercialization Report Card Study. This report, prepared by our Editorial Advisory Board member, Roger Grace of Roger Grace Associates, has been featured in CMM magazine in the last couple of years, and the results of last year’s edition are as interesting and enlightening as ever.

I hope you enjoy all these features, as well as our regular columns from the biggest names in the industry.
