ABOUT DOMESTIC SHEEPSKINS (U.K.) LTD
Domestic Sheepskins (UK) Limited (‘Domestic Sheepskins’) was established in Northern Ireland in 2001 by Yalcin Cubuk, after 15 successful years trading in his native Turkey. The Company is currently based in Co. Armagh, Northern Ireland and specialises in the preparation of hides and skins for export to tanneries. The main countries of export include Italy, Turkey, Thailand and China. The hides and skins are used in high fashion,
accessories and upholstery industries.
In less than 15 years Domestic Sheepskins has grown steadily from humble beginnings to having a turnover approaching £10 million and it is still continuing to expand rapidly. The firm currently employs 20 people with further plans to expand the workforce to at least 40 before 2018.
Yalcin Cubuk is the energetic CEO of this family-owned leather business and he has over 30 years of expert knowledge in this industry. Prior to setting up the
company in Northern Ireland Yalcin had a major role in the running of a family owned leather business that employed 400+ staff in his native Turkey. With many years’ experience in the industry, the company possesses expert knowledge which has enabled them to build a strong customer base worldwide.
The business model for the company is based upon producing the raw materials used within the leather industry. These raw materials are primarily by- products from the meat-packing industry. Domestic Sheepskins purchase the product at this stage. They will then “cure” the hides and skins by salting or drying them. The skins and hides are salted and placed on top of one another until they form a pack which is left for approximately 30 days to allow the salt to thoroughly penetrate the skin.
The company is currently planning on opening a second facility in America with the intention of
serving china from its west coast ports, thus shortening current transit times and allowing for further growth. Also at its HQ in Portadown plans are being put in place to build a state of the art facility, with the latest machinery that will allow for a more efficient and précise handling of the hides and skins, thus encouraging further growth and expansion.
Yalcin is heavily involved in all aspects of the business and provides the Company with a wealth of knowledge and experience built up over many years in this trade. Yalcin is currently responsible for meeting new clients and maintaining customer relationships, while also being involved in the production process.
The Company has a strong market hold in Ireland which has resulted from the strong reputation that the Company has built up through the excellent relationships forged with suppliers and customers.
