ANDERS HEINE JENSEN Denmark
CEO of BWSC ABOUT ANDERS HEINE JENSEN
Anders Heine Jensen has been with Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) since 2008 and transitioned into the position of CEO in 2011. With an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and a degree in Economics, his path to this position has been via project management, conventional and renewable power production, offshore oil & gas and, more recently, biomass and engine-based power plant projects.
Before joining BWSC, Anders Heine Jensen worked with two of the largest Danish players in the energy sector, DONG Energy and A.P. Møller-Mærsk, and in general, energy and project implementation have been running as the common thread through his career. Seeking influence on and knowledge about the energy sector initiatives, Anders Heine Jensen has also been appointed and is currently a board member of e.g. Danish Industry Energy, International Market Committee,
private listed energy companies and an Associate Member of a number of industry associations.
One of Anders Heine Jensen’s prime achievements as CEO of BWSC has been to lead the company through its rapid development within renewables projects. In particular, the Brigg Renewable Energy Plant has been a remarkable project and has formed the basis for this CEO Award. The collaboration and funding behind the
THE BRIGG PROJECT – an innovative collaboration between BWSC and PensionDanmark
The Brigg project is a 40 MW straw- fired biomass power plant located in Lincolnshire, England. The plant will be fuelled by straw sourced from producers within approx. a 50-mile radius of the facility, and the long- term contracts for fuel supply will result in annual investments into the local agricultural economy. The yearly production of the plant is equivalent to the energy consumption of 70,000 households and will lead to an annual CO2 emission reduction of approx. 300,000 tonnes.
Today’s investors in the energy sector are much more likely to be pension funds, institutional investors and foundations and this trend was caught by Anders Heine Jensen to find new means of developing and financing BWSC’s biomass power plant projects.
BWSC has, via PensionDanmark’s fund managers CIP, formed a joint venture company, BWSC PLC, which

will invest, in total, approx. £160 million in the project. BWSC’s share of the investment is £32 million and BWSC will further, in consortium with BWE, obtain an EPC contract at a value of £128 million and a 15-year Operation & Maintenance contract.
The plant is projected to be ready for operation in spring 2016.
“This is a breakthrough for Danish energy technology exports. The financial crisis has challenged the success of Danish businesses exporting sustainable energy plants.
BWSC and PensionDanmark formed a joint venture with the aim of building, owning and operating selected biomass power plants internationally. This adds more strings to our bow. With this model, not only will we be market leaders in power plant technology, but we will also own, operate and finance new plants in collaboration with PensionDanmark. This boosts our competitiveness considerably and establishes Danish energy technology on the world map,” says Anders Heine Jensen about the project.
Brigg project have been pioneering in this rather traditional business and have drawn a lot of attention. Another major achievement was to conclude two large contracts worth approximately £215 million to build two diesel combined- cycle power plants of 194 MW and 78 MW respectively on a full turnkey basis for a utility client in the Middle East. The two power plant projects were urgently needed in order to secure reliable and efficient power generation.
