OCEAN KAYAK’S REDESIGNED BIG GAME IS A BATTLESHIP FOR TROPHIES BY BEN DUCHESNEY

Ocean Kayak Big Game II FISH FRIENDLY FEATURES:

A

s soon as I received Ocean Kayak’s redesigned Prowler Big Game II for testing, I launched it on the local farm pond to kick the tires and chase

smallmouth bass. The boat is stable enough for sight fishing and maneuverable enough to scoot around the sheltered waters. A few weeks later, I took the Big Game II after striped bass on the sandy flats

around Cape Cod where it proved just as capable in coastal chop as on a sylvan pond. The flared bow easily cuts through the surf and the boat tracks straight. While no kayak will do it all, Ocean Kayak’s modifications to their already

forms well in open water. While the original BG was most at home in the wind and waves, the new version incorporates features that inshore and freshwater anglers find appealing. Big is the key word in Big Game. This boat is 12 feet, nine inches long and 34

inches wide. Extra stringers give the boat more volume in the stern, allowing an angler to carry more stuff without losing speed. The extra-wide stern also makes the boat extra stable. It had enough primary stability for me to not only stand and fish in calm waters, but also light chop. The most significant changes to the Big Game II were made on the topside.

To give anglers more options for installing accessories, the Big Game II has removable mounting surfaces along the gunwales that allow anglers to attach
