Award-winning Voltis ECO packs a money-saving punch V

oltis ECO is Marshall-Tufflex’s award-winning range of 3-phase multi-tap voltage optimisation units ideally suited to users requiring an entry

level ‘no-frills’ approach to power management.

Don’t be left in the Dark New ‘Step Down’ Illuminance Controls from DANLERS

range ‘Step

of PIR Down’

illuminance for dimmable ballasts with 1-10VDC input. Ideal for use in stairwells, washrooms and car parks etc when energy saving is required with a permanent lower level of illuminance for additional security and peace of mind. These easy to install controls switch lights ON to 100% when an area is occupied, then when non- occupied will switch the ballast to a preset LOWER LIGHT LEVEL (variable from 10% - 100%) via an easy to access adjustment spindle. The adjustable time lag function controls the time that must elapse with no further movement detected,

switching to the lower light level. An ‘inhibit on’ photocell prevents lights from switching on when an area is entered with plenty of ambient light.

The units, recently named ‘Best New Product’ at the Electrical Wholesaler Awards,

offer quicker

installation, faster payback times and greater in-use flexibility.

Voltis ECO units are sized from a compact 435mm x 600mm x 275mm and available direct from electrical wholesalers. They are manufactured with three integral ‘tapping’ settings. Installers determine the ECO unit required (100A, 200A, 300A or 400A) and select the most appropriate tapping (which can be altered at a later date).

This multi-tap transformer approach drops the voltage by 11%, 9% or 6%, depending upon the level of incoming Mains (245Volts or above, 240Volts or 235Volts). Voltis ECO is particularly suited to sites without voltage dependent equipment and where electrical consumption is characterised by consistent, steady loads.

Voltis ECO units, one of a number of voltage optimisation solutions from Marshall-Tufflex, are lighter and smaller. They have no moving parts, require no maintenance and make savings as soon as installation is complete.

Marshall-Tufflex scored a triple success at the Electrical Wholesaler Awards, walking away with top spot in all three categories it was entered in – Best Supplier Customer Service; Best Overall Supplier and Best New Product for Voltis ECO.

Understanding Power Usage in High Consumption Facilities P

ower usage monitoring in facilities with power-hungry equipment can perform an important role in ongoing energy efficiency policies.

For example, regular monitoring with Gemini Data Loggers’

Tinytag Energy Logger has proved effective for European Freeze Dry, a leading multi-product freeze drying facility and speciality freeze drying services provider. European Freeze Dry monitors the energy consumption of all plant and equipment at its site: the Energy Logger is used in 24 hour periods on equipment such as vacuum pumps, vacuum boosters, air compressors, pumps etc. The recorded data is analyzed to identify areas where or

usage enter 809 loading of equipment can be reduced. Where modifications to systems or

practices are implemented the equipment will then be monitored again to quantify savings and efficiencies.

The Tinytag Energy Logger costs £795 +VAT, and is a safe and easy to use tool for monitoring single and three phase power

usage. The portable, self-configuring device can be used for spot-checks or for longer term recording. Non-invasive flexible coils are used to monitor the current in each phase of a three phase supply while the voltage information may be obtained via a standard 13A wall socket.

Similarly, Hampshire-based Celab is a relatively high user of electricity, typically 55,000- 70,000KWH/month. Celab designs and manufactures high reliability power supplies for military and commercial applications. With 2000m2 of manufacturing space housing a variety of equipment and processes, Celab purchased an Energy Logger to understand the power usage of individual pieces of equipment and to help identify where potential energy usage savings can be made.

Gemini Data Loggers has been designing and manufacturing the Tinytag range of data loggers in the UK since 1992 and trades globally with a network of over 40 distributors.

New energy saving CPD

from Hamworthy Heating H

amworthy Heating has developed a new CIBSE accredited CPD presentation which looks at the

practicalities of how to save energy in commercial heating and hot water projects and the best way to quantify those savings from the whole-life perspective. Aimed at heating and DHW specifiers, consultants, facilities managers and procurement managers, the CPD will look at equipment selection priorities and why efficiency is a key driver towards a lower carbon Britain. With the use of practical examples the course will highlight the real benefits to the bottom line of improvements such as using higher efficiency and close load matching modular condensing boiler systems in place of

traditional

atmospheric and steel shell boilers. The free to attend course has received approval from CIBSE enabling it to count towards a CIBSE member’s annual CPD hours.
