Litigation Solicitor A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen for a lawyer to join the multidisciplinary in-house legal service for South Wales and Gwent Police providing a comprehensive legal service to the Police and Crime Commissioners for both Gwent and South Wales and to the Chief Constables of Gwent Police and South Wales Police. We are looking for an energetic, motivated and experienced qualifi ed solicitor or barrister to join us.
This post is based within our litigation team and will be required to manage and organise a caseload of complex work. Candidates should be comfortable with responding to fast changing requirements with minimal supervision, as well as providing legal advice and guidance at strategic and day to day levels. You should be an experienced advocate. You must also be computer literate and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge and experience in the conduct and management of public and employer’s liability claims are essential together with experience of miscellaneous liability claims, Judicial Review and debt recovery matters (as well as the requirements of the Civil Procedures Rules). The successful candidate must be able to take on an existing workload and must be prepared to undergo vetting to management level.
The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience which will include making Court Applications, attendance at Court, complying with Court Directions/Orders, preparing witness statements, making decisions/ recommendations in relation to liability, dealing with costs issues and briefi ng Counsel. Candidates will also need to evidence their previous experience of providing legal advice to senior offi cers in an organisation.
Upon taking up the role the successful candidate will initially work from Gwent Police Headquarters, Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran - however they will be required to move from this location either temporarily or permanently, to any other location in the area for which Gwent Police and/or South Wales Police have responsibility (whether current or future). This post will not, therefore, have Gwent Police Headquarters as a contractual base of employment.
