ROBUST CABLE DRAG CHAINS
In response to customer demands for one-piece cable drag chains that are easy to install, offer widths between 15 and 50mm, and provide high standards in terms of loading, speed and travel distance length, Murrplastik has introduced the MP 20.2. This has been designed for use on small and fast handling and assembly robots. Despite being compact in size, this
is extremely stable and robust in its design, while offering a stability and smoothness previously only available in larger-scale cable drag chains, the company claims. There are 20 variants available
with chain widths of 15, 25, 38 and 50mm and radii of 38, 48, 75, 100 and up to 125mm. The MP 20.2 has an internal height of 20mm, an external height of 25mm and includes 29 chain links per running metre (exactly 1.15m). An optional separator can be used to separate the lines, and the chain links can be opened on the inside curve. The maximum travel distance is 8m in hanging operation and 3m in upright operation. Furthermore, the chain links are
manufactured in a single injection moulding cycle and in a single part. The cover is linked by means of a flexible hinge.

Efficient drive units for dynamic speed control and automatic process control in applications that need to be regularly cleaned with high- pressure steam jets, are available from Nord Drivesystems. Developed for strict hygiene requirements and featuring IP66/IP69K ingress protection, smooth-surface motors with an integrated frequency inverter are available for the 0.37 to 1.1kW performance range. Sensor data such as pressure or flow rate values can be directly
communicated to the drives, enabling them to adapt to current demand; and if partial load operation is frequent, an automatic
energy-saving function decreases running costs. In conveyor applications, light barriers can be used for contact-free or gapless accumulation; and a soft start function reduces the starting current. The drives tolerate high temperature fluctuations and are suitable for ambient temperatures from
-25 to +50˚C. The type SK 180E inverter comes in a rugged die-cast aluminium housing that absorbs impacts up to 7J and features cooling fins that are flat and easy to clean.

P2i has teamed up with Siemens Industry to further enhance the security, operational efficiency and scalability of its latest generation of Dunkable nano-coating systems. Dunkable is an ultra-thin barrier coating designed to protect smartphones and other consumer electronic devices from immersion damage, without impacting the look, feel or functionality. The company’s Splash- proof and Dunkable technology use pulsed-plasma enhanced deposition processing to permeate the coating throughout the device, attaching the coating to all surfaces. As such P2i has developed bespoke machines to apply the coatings. With integrated Siemens control technology, the Dunkable machines will deliver increased reliability and repeatability benefits, as well as laying a standardised foundation for future scalability . Various electronic devices currently benefitting from the
protection of P2i’s technology include Siemens’ hearing aids, smartphones, tablets, Bluetooth headsets and earphones. Later this year, P2i will be launching the new Dunkable technology onto smartphones with a partner brand.

ETHERCAT SERVO DRIVES
New to Panasonic’s MINAS A5 servo drives series is the MINAS A5B series, which is equipped with an EtherCAT drive bus. This enables open data exchange among many EtherCAT motion controllers. Benefits including its high
transmission speed and sampling rate, and fast, real-time Ethernet bus for automation, mean the new range is suited to highly dynamic single and multiple axis positioning tasks such as found in pick-and-place applications, labelling machines and bottling plants. In addition, standard Ethernet cables can be used for distances of up to 100m.

A disc-shaped pneumatic sub-assembly for the rotational suction, holding and conveyance of paper, film or felt strips, has been produced by Georg Martin, working with a German plant engineering company. The part has a diameter of 100mm and a height of 20mm. The module consists of a
housing made from a circular stainless steel blank with multiple perforations punched and machined with high precision, a rubber band with a perforation running round the outer surface, and a plastic channel and jet system pressed inwards. All components are sealed airtight. Unlike the solid suction rings used previously, the new hybrid modules are said to be lighter and less expensive.
HOUSINGS A plummer block housing for spherical rolling bearings has been introduced by Schaeffler which is said to increase the operating life of the bearings by up to 50% compared to conventional plummer block housings. The FAG SNS plummer block housing
offers benefits including more even load distribution on the bearings, resulting in an extended operating life. Manufactured from high quality, spheroidal graphite cast iron as standard, the housing offers robustness and operational reliability. The housing is also easier to mount and dismount. Other benefits include improved
lubrication thanks to a lubrication bore with a longer groove on the inside of the upper section of the housing. This means that different bearing types installed in each bearing position can now be supplied with sufficient lubricant at all times. Rolling bearings of different diameters
and widths can be installed in the new SNS plummer block housing.
