tivities; and expand the TMA Speakers Bureau. Through this initiative, Dr. King hopes to find new ways to bring TMA’s name before the public. To increase physician involvement at the community level, Dr. King encour- ages physicians and their spouses to join their school boards, parent-teacher as- sociations, school health advisory coun- cils, and local clubs, and to run for local government office. He says returning to these grassroots efforts will allow phy- sicians and their spouses to develop a power base locally and take on leader- ship roles.

In his community, Dr. King has served as vice president and long-time board member of the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission, an organization that pro- vides health and wellness services to thousands of people lacking access to basic care. Dr. King also is a Paul Harris Rotary Fellow, an Eagle Scout, and a past member of the Abilene Chamber Military Affairs Committee, and was named Hon- orary Hospital Commander for Dyess Air Force Base. Dr. King received his medical degree

Between completing medical school and his resi- dencies, he completed an externship at the Royal Institute of Laryngology and Otology in London, England.
