FACILITIES SHOW

THE REAL DEAL FOR FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

Facilities Show reflects on 15 years at the heart of the industry. 1

5 years in the making is Facilities Show and similar could be said for facilities management. From a somewhat haphazard function, made up of caretakers, head teachers, office managers, caretakers, property owners, cleaners and repair men, the role has changed and matured into an industry.

The job has adapted and the pay bracket has almost doubled, with the facilities manager (FM) taking on a greater responsibility and status. At times, they facilitate business growth and expansion, participating strategically alongside the board and senior management. Other times, they’re explaining why young women cannot use hair straighteners at their desks. It is a puzzling role indeed. And if you ask the small army of sales people that are looking to sell to them all over the country, it is a rather elusive role too. Who is the FM and what do they need to get the job done?

“When you need to find the marketing manager, you can just ask, simple as that. Whereas finding out who’s the decision- making FM is a whole different kettle of fish” said Fergus Bird, Group Event Manager, UBM Live.

And so, for this reason, Facilities Show has grown, strengthened and even boomed over the years. You will find FMs there. Held in association with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) for the past 10 years, it has developed into the national show that a professionalised industry warrants.

The event, running June 17-19, will have over 350 companies exhibiting. Not to mention, the other 1,100 companies involved in the co-located shows of IFSEC International (security), FIREX (fire safety), Safety & Health Expo, Energy and Environment Expo and Service Management Expo. FMs can move freely amongst the shows and for free! And so what else makes it the real deal?

Firstly, 3 days of expert educational seminars with industry presenters and panel members including The Keynote Theatre, The BIFM Knowledge Theatre and the latest addition, The Interiors Zone Seminar Theatre. There will be a number of sessions on managing waste and energy performance certificates. Another benefit of attending will be the

De-Ice Arena which will be the networking hub of the show this year. It will include the Social Media Buying Request Service, which will match visitors purchasing requirements with exhibitors products and services live via Twitter, arranging a meeting there and then onsite. This should make it even easier for FMs to find what they are looking for and help exhibitors meet key visitors. It will also house a “Meet The Buyer Zone”, which will be an area especially dedicated to meeting procurement teams from the TFM community. There will even be a penalty shoot-out!
