UK to get direct flights to Colombia’s capital

THE UK and Colombia are to be connected by a direct flight as Avianca launches a non-stop service from Heathrow to El Dorado International Airport, Bogota, the country’s capital, on June 27. The service, which will run four times a

week – on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – will be operated by an Airbus A-330, although the airline says it will put seven Boeing 787s on its European routes into Europe by November 2014. Proexport Colombia, the government

agency for the promotion of tourism, trade and investment, has been busy showcasing Colombia’s tourism products in recent years, including more than 50 FAM trips. And the promotion is paying off: eight years ago there were no UK operators featuring the country but now there are more than 60. UK arrivals were up 10% in the January-

October 2013 period, compared to the same period for the previous year. colombia.travel
