You’re not limited to the round count provided with your pistol’s factory magazine. Both factory and aftermarket options can provide you with a maximum number of cartridges at your disposal if needed. Larger capacity magazines may stick out a bit farther, but they’re an option for use as extra, backup, or emergency mags.

hich is better: more or less? In case you haven’t seen the insurance commercial on television, the answer is “more.” This is especially true when discussing defensive ammunition. The humorous saying goes, “The only time you can have too much ammunition is when you’re swimming or on fi re.” Considering ambushes against law enforcement, armed encounters with increasing round counts, active shooters, and pharmaceutically enhanced felons, it would seem wise to have every potentially life-saving round at our disposal. An offi cer can increase his/her ammuni- tion capacity by carrying more magazines, but there’s not exactly a lot of room left on the modern crime fi ghter’s duty belt with OC, Taser, radio, pistol, handcuff s (probably two sets) taking up most of the real estate. T e street cop can increase car- tridge capacity in another way; by purchas- ing larger magazines that fi t the duty pistol or reaching into the aftermarket world for
