Introduction Welcome to the ACR Show 2014
THERE IS NO doubt that 2014 is going to be another challenging year for the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. As the country comes slowly out of recession, our sector will also have to deal with more legislative changes. However, I believe that the industry is in good shape to meet these challenges head-on. In just under a year’s time, a total ban on R22 will come into force, with many businesses
ON BEHALF OF exhibitors, sponsors and the exhibition team, may I wish you a very warm welcome to the ACR Show 2014.
As the UK air conditioning and refrigeration industry’s only dedicated national exhibition, it provides a unique showcase of the latest technical
facing the prospect of having to upgrade or replace their climate control systems. The debate is sure to continue on which gas will be most widely adopted as the next-generation refrigerant, with the aim of maximising energy efficiency and reliability, using products that are both cost-effective and have low environmental impact.
and commercial developments. It also provides a great opportunity to network with and meet new and existing customers and suppliers. Following the show’s launch two years ago, we are proud that the industry has once again supported the event. This year we are delighted to have secured the high profile participation of Daikin UK, our headline sponsor.
Against this background is increasing pressure from shareholders and investors (and in the public sector, government) for organisations to improve their green credentials. This has to be balanced with financial considerations but for those with intensive energy consumption, particularly where air conditioning and refrigeration are critical – retailers, healthcare providers, data centres and hoteliers, for example – highly energy efficient systems can bring substantial savings in operational costs.
While Government appears to be backing away from its original commitment of zero carbon buildings by 2020, legislation continues to be introduced to drive energy efficiency. The revision to Part L of the Building Regulations this year will see an 9% uplift in efficiency standards for new buildings and the cost of carbon ‘allowances’ under the Government’s carbon reduction commitment scheme will rise by 33% for 2014-15.
Fortunately, manufacturers are continually developing new ways to help businesses maintain, upgrade and replace their climate control and refrigeration systems, to improve efficiency, reduce
capital and running costs and lower CO2 emissions. It is important that manufacturers, installers, engineers and building managers work closely together to ensure that everyone benefits from innovative technology, which is why events such as the ACR Show are so important.
The company has chosen the show as a launch pad for a major development in the air conditioning field. Visitors will be the first to hear about – and see first-hand – an exciting innovation expected to make a big impact on the market. I would like to thank our speakers for their contributions to the show’s excellent seminar programme. With the current changes taking place, not least on the legislative front with the new F-Gas proposals, access to up-to-date, high quality information is more than ever vital to ensure business success.
During the three days of the show, the industry’s leading experts will give seminars updating visitors on developments in their respective fields. For visitors, it is an opportunity not to be missed to get ahead of the game.
I wish visitors, exhibitors and sponsors a successful show, and look forward to welcoming you back in two years’ time, for the ACR Show 2016.
Jan Thorpe, Exhibition Director
