Find out what’s hot, what’s not and how to do it with ACR News
t’s already February, and it seems like Christmas was only last week. February this year is a busy month for the ACR team, not least because of the ACR Show at the NEC from 11 to 13 February, and the ACR Awards at the National Motorcycle Museum on 12 February.
I
The official Event Guide is in the centre of this issue, which contains details on probably one of the most packed seminar programs I’ve ever seen at a trade show, with two central theatres running, plus a training program from the Institute of Refrigeration in their own theatre. The popularity of trade shows has waxed and waned over the last few years, not least because of research and development budgets being cut resulting in a lack of new products across most of the building sectors. But over the last couple of years, there has been an increase in new innovations and initiatives, which has breathed new life into trade shows, particularly in the specialist areas. This can be clearly seen with the proliferation of ‘green’ shows that have been springing up.
The acr industry is no exception to this growth of innovation, especially with drivers that include both energy efficiency and legislation changes, and what better way to get those products the right market, but at a dedicated trade show? In light of this, many of the exhibitors are launching exciting
new products and services, some of which are shaping up to be big news, including the much-anticipated launch from lead sponsor Daikin UK. Exhibitors are also making enquiries for the next Show in 2016, a clear indication that industry is breaking out of the holding pattern that many have had to adopt to get through the recession, and is looking to the future. The whole event will be opened by a high profile person who cannot yet be named, but will add a touch of the red carpet to the proceedings. And with the Awards taking place nearby on the middle evening of the Show, both events are shaping up to be two of the key knowledge gathering and networking events of the year. We also have a new Award of which I’ve spoken before, for customer service, with nominations and voting purely online.
The catalyst for this was Steve Gill’s blog on the ACR News website – go read it if you haven’t already (
goo.gl/ zTRKIR), if for no other reason that you know what people are talking about on 12 February. You’ll find it’s a good read, understated but to the point, and then look at the comments below to see how much of a nerve it has touched – nearly 500 comments at last count. The response has been phenomenal – at time of writing, voting has been going on for just over a week, and the number of votes for our nine international nominees have well
and truly overtaken the number of comments on the blog.
The ACR News Awards are worth attending in order to be a part of this inaugural Award alone.
Of course there is much more to the event, with 10 other categories celebrating the achievements of different aspects of our industry, along with good food, good company and entertainment in the form of actor and comedian James Nesbitt.
The ACR Show and the ACR News Awards are set to be the talk of the year, and the ACR team looks forward to welcoming you to both.
