ATRAX 2013

After the inaugural event in 2012, Turkey’s only exhibition for the amusement and attractions industry returned to Istanbul this December

Held at the Istanbul Expo Center, the dates were Thursday 5 to Saturday 7 December. Bringing together professionals from across the industry, from amusement parks and municipal parks to hotels, FECs and shopping malls, ATRAX 2013 attracted 8,158 visitors (including some enthusiasts as well as qualified buyers). Exhibitors, 183 in total, came from 24 countries.

Others simply walked the floor looking for business, the location close to Istanbul's Atatürk Airport making a flying visit quite feasible.

Whilst this show is still quite small by international standards, it’s nevertheless found a niche with companies trading in or keen to gain access to a market with acknowledged growth potential, not least from the development of several new theme park projects. Indeed, during the show the mayor of Ankara, Melih Gokcek, browsed the stands to procure equipment for the upcoming Ankapark planned for his city. As well as Turkey, exhibitors also reported seeing visitors from Iran, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria and other countries.

Simulation products apparently proved popular but it was climbing wall/adventure trail combination that as recognised as “most impressive product” of the event in the Shining Star Awards organised by Atraxion (sic) magazine. The winner of “most successful new product”, however, was the XD Cinema from local exhibitor Simulator Makine. ATRAX was started, says Nergis Aslan, general manager for organiser Tureks Uluslararasi Fuarcilk, “with a view to further expanding this promising sector of Turkey. And now, with the Shining Star Awards we’ll be bringing the successful projects of the sector to the attention of a local and international audience, and we’ll try to encourage new projects to help the sector get stronger.” ATRAX will take place for a third time from 4 to 6 December 2014.
