36 Product News RDM protects refrigeration compressors

Resource Data Management (RDM) has introduced the intuitive power store to protect refrigeration systems from damage following power outages.

Refrigeration compressors, as used across the food and drink industry, can suffer severe

damage following start-up after a power failure as a result of stepper valves being out of sequence and in the wrong place. This can lead to liquid refrigerant entering the compressor crankcase, resulting in low oil pressure and possible failure. Resulting damage can shorten compressor working life or may be so serious that it requires complete replacement, representing a huge expense for end-users. Recognising the problem, RDM has developed the intuitive power store which links to the company’s stepper valve controller, to provide protection against compressor damage on start-up following power failure. The combination automatically closes stepper valves when mains power is lost. When mains power is restored, stepper valves are then returned to the correct operational settings gradually, in line with the evaporator duty required. Resource Data Management (RDM)

☎ 0141 810 2828 A heat pump for all seasons

In combining a high efficiency reverse- cycle heat pump with PTC (positive temperature coefficient) ceramic heaters, Powrmatic’s Climapac packaged twin-duct units are able to provide effective space heating even at sub-zero temperatures. They also feature a built-in evaporator and condenser – eliminating the need for an external unit and associated refrigerant pipework. Designed for high wall mounting, Climapac units provide up to 3.86kW of heating when the heat pump and PTC heaters are used in unison, and have a cooling capacity of 2.38kW. They are fully remote controlled with temperature and timer options. A subtle LCD display is conveniently located on the lower front panel. Climapac units are designed for high wall mounting on an external wall, with a discreet connection through the wall to the outside. Thanks to their distinctive polished black finish and ‘speaker style’ heaters they have a modern appearance that will enhance a wide range of decors. Powrmatic

Eight engineering students from Glasgow Kelvin College, the city’s newest merged college, have reached the Scottish National Building & Engineering Services Association Apprenticeship Finals – the HVACR Awards for Outstanding Achievement. This nationwide

competition is open to all colleges who are invited to put forward two apprentices into each of four award sections: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Heating and Ventilation, and Service and Maintenance. Glasgow Kelvin College entered eight apprentices, two in each subject area, who scooped all the awards, coming first and second in each of the four award sections. The apprentices who excelled in their field were: Apprentice Pipe Fitter of the Year – 1st Lee Cockburn, 2nd Jordan Gilmour; Apprentice Pipe Fitter/Welder of the Year – 1st Max Thomas, 2nd Ross Donnelly; Apprentice Service and Maintenance Engineer of the Year – 1st Tom Gregory, 2nd Sinclair Bain; Apprentice RAC Engineer of the Year– 1st James Peffers, 2nd Justin Cahill. The awards will be presented at a ceremony early in 2014. Glasgow Kelvin College

☎ 0141 630 5000 New wall-mounted PKEA units

Panasonic has launched wall-mounted PKEA units, designed to provide high- quality heating and cooling for offices and professional environments, including server and computer rooms. Adding to Panasonic’s successful domestic and commercial unit ranges, the wall-mounted PKEA line-up delivers consistent heating and cooling

through its technically advanced changeover system, even when outside temperatures are as low as -15°C. It is ideal for operation 24/7 operation. Indoor and outdoor single-phase wall-mounted PKEA units are available in 2.8kW to 5kW and can deliver energy-efficiency ratings of up to 7.1 A++ in SEER and 4.4 A+ SCOP. Its electronic expansion valve ensures accurate sub-cooling and adjustable refrigerant flow, while its outdoor DC fan motor provides flexible air-flow for optimum condensation pressure on the outdoor pipe temperature sensor. Each PKEA features Panasonic’s timer remote control and interface options, including the PAW-Server-PKEA, which is available to buy as a dry contact optional extra. Panasonic
