Southern Manufacturing & Electronics returns to FIVE, Farnborough, on February 12th and 13th 2014. The 2013 show set new records for both visitor attendance and the number of companies taking part. With UK manufacturing seemingly quickening its pace as the economy recovers, 2014 promises further development

or those associated with automa- tion, the Southern Manufacturing show is one of the main events held annually in the UK. Along with its favourable location and free entry, it is probably the preferred show in the country for individuals looking for a broad overview of all that’s avail- able in the market today. “The Southern and Northern Manufacturing shows are really unique in what they offer visi- tors,” said show director, Phil Valentine. Escalating visitor numbers (over 8,500 in 2013) and plenty of important fresh exhibitors this year appears to add sub- stance to that statement.

The Southern Manufacturing show boasts rare levels of support amongst its exhibitors - almost all of which come back regularly. This solid body of central support exerts a strong attraction on visitor and potential exhibitors alike, with over 100 new enterprises exhibiting for the first time in 2014. What awaits visitors is a pleasing symmetry of the well known and the refreshingly new.

Exhibitors

Almost, if not all of the major brand manufacturers will return to Farnborough in 2014, including Fanuc, Hepco Motion, LG Motion, RS Components, Faro, HAAS Automation, HPC Gears, Amada and many others. They are accompanied by various major new names, one of them being Olympus - exhibiting for the first time in 2014. There are also literally hundreds of companies pro- viding thousands of sub-assemblies, mechanical engineering components, machine vision systems, subcontract metalworking and consumables. Add to this a wide array of business sup- port services, for instance training and finance, and it’s not too difficult to figure out why the show is now attracting participants and visitors from all over the globe. The Electronics section of the event has grown significantly in recent years and is at this point arguably the most all inclusive market in the UK for machine building, automation components and sub-assemblies such as encoders, controllers, drives and sensors of all descriptions. Delta Line returns once again coming from its home base in Milan, exhibiting a range of motors, stepper motors, cus- tomised gearboxes, encoders and intelligent drives. Monitran will be highlighting its range of vibration sensors, together with other specialist sensor suppliers such as Magni-Tec, Bernstein and Micro-Epsilon. On the mechanical engineering side, exhibiting for the first time is Ondrives, a maker of a huge multi- tude of gears and transmission system components. Acorn Industrial Services will exhibit a variety of linear motion and actuation systems. Travelling from Spain to take part in the show, AMES SA provides a

Knowledge transfer

The Southern Manufacturing & Electronics Show’s free technical seminar programme has grown to become something of an institution since its creation, providing visitors free accessibility to presentations from business specialists and fore- most academic figures. Topics on the agenda for 2014 will include a look at advanced manufacturing techniques and materials, designing for commer- cial success, selling abroad, presenta- tions on lean manufacturing and how to market successfully. These are only just a handful of highlights from an event that is truly an Aladdin’s cave of manufacturers, tool suppliers, subcontractors and suppli- ers, covering virtually every possible manufacturing need, from steel stock- ists to software.
