he software of the newly implemented WMS improves order picking and despatch, and provides order visibility and product trace- ability. The real time wireless WMS also inte- grates fully with the P+L Systems SAP Business One enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. “We recognised that we needed to consolidate the business onto a single IT platform that would support future growth. We wanted accurate stock records and real time visibility of all transactions so we knew exactly where each order was and when it was despatched,” said Nick Fournier, head of supply chain at P+L Systems. “We also wanted to prevent despatch errors caused by the paper picking lists and having to rely on the warehouse operator to be as accurate as possible, which is very difficult using manual methods.”

BalloonOne worked in partnership with P+L Systems to ensure the project ran as smoothly as possible, providing the company with the support it needed throughout the implementation. “Working with BalloonOne we were able to go live in the UK and in Spain at the same time. We did perform extensive trials with more than 2,500 test transactions and, during the planning phase, we had the opportunity to revise several procedures to implement best practice meth- ods,” said Fournier. “We went live in April and we were able to pick and pack successfully using the system from day one. The project is already paying dividends for the business - we have accurate stock levels and we have real time visibility of all orders. The system is also very flexible allowing us the option to despatch from the most appropriate DC-based on stock availability and this helps to protect cus- tomer service. If we run out of a product in one warehouse or don’t have enough it is a simple matter to despatch from the other DC.” P+L Systems has its head office and UK distribu- tion centre in Knaresborough, Yorkshire. It also has a European distribution centre in Spain. It devel- ops leading brands for specialist commercial mar- kets, including flying insect, bird and general pest control products as well as a range of commercial washroom hygiene products including hand dryers, dispensers and fragrances.
