Deutschmann Automation presents new gateways lines
A
t the SPS/IPC/Drives 2013 exhibition, Deutschmann Automation, manufacturer of ready-to-install bus nodes and gateway solutions for all current industrial protocols, will present two new gateway lines and product upgrades. The Ethernet gateways from the UNIGATE EL series facilitate communication between control / office level and field level via Ethernet TCP/IP and UDP. The DIN rail devices are available for a wide range of fieldbuses and Industrial Ethernet systems, including Modbus TCP, Profibus DP, MPI, DeviceNet, CANopen, POWERLINK, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and EtherNet/IP. Supporting the same range of protocols, the second new series, UNIGATE CM, is designed for connecting CAN and CANopen applications with other fieldbuses. The gateways feature a CAN/CANopen master interface with Mini-Master functionality. The UNIGATE EL and UNIGATE CM units and the established UNIGATE CL protocol converters are optionally available with eight I/Os that can be set as inputs or outputs for any application by means of the Deutschmann script.

ABB reactive pump control saves £100,000 for Severn Trent Water
evern Trent Water is saving a total of £100,000 per year on energy and maintenance costs across a number of its wastewater treatment plants following the installation of award winning technology from ABB and its Drives Alliance member, Inverter Drive Systems (IDS). Developed by IDS and known as reactive pump control, the new method of controlling sludge in sewage treatment plants uses an ABB low voltage AC drive, combined with a specially written software algorithm to measure viscosity and achieve the flow control demanded by the sludge pumps. The system was trialled at

Severn Trent’s sewage treatment site at Pye Bridge. It reduced pumping time by 90 percent by running the pump on average for 10 minutes per five hours, saving £42,000 a year.

New simplified DAkkS accredited service H
BM is offering a new simplified DAkkS accredited service designed to reduce time and cost for the calibration of force transducers used either for industrial measurement technology to monitor production or those utilised in test benches for research and development.
The calibration
service provides very high accuracy with measurement uncertainty ranging from 0.005% to 0.02% of the actual value. In addition the calibration service covers a range from 2.5 N to 5 MN for tensile and compressive force; this is the largest range available through DAkkS. The reference standards used are regularly verified by comparison measurements with the PTB (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, the German Metrology Institute). Quality processes increasingly include requirements for calibration certificates verifying accredited calibration processes. The new service from HBM ensures that audits can be reliably passed. Every calibrated transducer is authenticated with a certificate that automatically provides proof of traceability. The certificate also includes a statement of measurement uncertainty and conformity to ensure ease in passing audits
