Omron’s latest inductive technology has now been applied to a new range of small diam- eter inductive sensors. The new µPROX E2E provides precision detection and allows installation in even the most confined spaces. The portfolio has been extended to include both shielded and non-shielded types and versions with pig-tail connector leads, which provide an efficient changeover solution. Available in 3mm, 4mm, 6.5mm, M4 and M5 housings, Omron’s µPROX offers a flexi- ble solution for inductive sensor applications, where mounting space is restricted. Sensing performance has been improved by up to 50%, compared to previous models, ensuring users can optimise the mounting position of the sensors, whilst reducing the possi- bility of collisions and minimising machine down-time caused by damage to the sensor. Providing high frequency operation with up to 5KHz response, the µPROX is even suitable for high speed counting operations. With an IP67 rated stainless steel housing, the sensors can be used in a wide range of applications including those that experience harsh environ- mental conditions. The sensors also provide highly visible indication, which ensures that operators can confirm the operation of the sensor with ease, even from long distances. Enter 215 Solutions for assembly and joining processes


The new NCFB electro-mechanical joining modules from Kistler Instruments have been engineered to provide a solution to many assembly and joining processes. Two versions of the new design are available, each with two mea- suring ranges. The smaller version has measuring ranges of 5 and 15kN with 200mm stroke at a speed of 250mm/s, and the larger version has ranges of 25 and 50kN with a 400mm stroke length at 150mm/s. Both have a stroke length repeatability in real world conditions of 0.01mm.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has developed a new drive concept for baggage handling in airports. Combined with efficient geared motors from NORD, its decen- tralised frequency inverters and motor starters pro- vide a user friendly one-stop solution.


An SK 200E inverter with a directly wired motor encoder, an integrated positioning function and brake management (via a 180V DC output) was employed

for lifting, lowering, and positioning. Models from the same inverter line ensured contact-free baggage accu- mulation on belt conveyors with sensor signals directly routed to the inverter via interfaces. In order to seamlessly transfer baggage to the hoist, the various drive units were synchronised. In the exhibition demonstration, a compact SK 180E inverter controls the roller conveyor drive, also allow- ing for accumulation and synchronisation. Featuring the same operating interface, NORD’s SK 135 soft starter/reversing starters provide protection for the conveyor and gear unit mechanics. Since the starter is also mounted directly on the motor’s terminal box and includes protection features, the integrated design presents an alternative to centralised solutions that require considerable wiring effort as well as separate motor protection switches, reversing contactors and brake rectifiers. In the exhibition model, the controller and the drives communicate via Profibus. In addition, NORD also implements connections via all standard bus systems such as Profinet or EtherNet/IP. High speed industrial camera


The new Vieworks VC-12M-65 industrial camera from Stemmer Imaging combines high resolution with fast frame rates. These monochrome or colour cameras feature the latest 12 megapixel (4,096 × 3,072) global shutter CMOS sensors from CMOSIS. The cameras produce images at frame rates up to 65fps. They can be used for applications such as PCB inspection, automated optical inspection machines, 3D inspection and scientific imaging. The VC-12M-65 is the latest addition to the VC series of cameras and is equipped with either a CameraLink (model VC-12MC-65) or CoaXPress (model VC-12MX-65) interface. These cameras are characterised by their noise reduction technology for high quality imaging and offer not only high speed image processing capabilities but also precise exposure control. The frame rate of up to 65fps at full


resolution can be increased even further using the flexible Multi-ROI (region of interest) function to optimise between resolution and speed. A frame rate of 377fps can be achieved at a resolution of 4,096 × 500 pixels. The Multi-ROI facility allows up to 32 regions to be defined on the sensor array. The VC-12M-65 features flat field cor-
