MCV speaks to Oliver Swales of Newark-based Reload Games about the blockbuster launches of Mario Kart and Watch Dogs, the popularity of digital codes as well as the store’s move into online retail
How has business been for you recently? It’s been quite good actually. We had Half Term last week, which made up for a quiet few weeks. And then Watch Dogs launched and was massive, followed up by Mario Kart 8. But other than that we found ourselves selling quite a few digital codes.
Is digital a big seller for you? It is getting bigger now that we can off er a wider range and not

have to rely on the physical cards anymore.
Did you have a boost in hardware sales as well as software last week? Yes. The number of PS4s and Wii Us really spiked last week because of the bundles with Watch Dogs and Mario Kart.
Did you do anything special for the launch of those games? We did a midnight launch for
Watch Dogs and for Mario Kart we just opened early on launch day. And of course we had the special edition for both of those games.
You have a website. Are you selling content through that? We sell stock internationally over Amazon, and we also sell over eBay, which we use for our retro stuff . And right now we are fi ne- tuning our website to sell goods over that, too. We operate over a load of diff erent platforms.
