750,000-Plus Fans: Beef Checkoff’s Social Media Span
T
HE BEEF CHECKOFF ADVERTIS- ing program drove con-
sumers to the “Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner.” (BI- WFD) Facebook page, which boasts more than 750,000 fans. That’s much more than pork (186,000 fans); Incredible Edible Egg (455,000 fans); Got Milk (72,000 fans) and Perdue Chicken (196,000 fans). Those numbers started back on Oct. 1, 2012, with 535,739 total “likes” or fans. Currently, the beef checkoff’s consumer page has 753,540 total likes, so since the beginning of the fi scal year the BI- WFD Facebook page has increased its community by 217,801 likes.
Beef 706 T
HE TEXAS BEEF COUNCIL (TBC) recently hosted
two sessions of Beef 706 in partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. More than 60 cat- tle producers attended the hands-on quality assur- ance trainings designed for producers to follow their animals through the marketplace after the sale and learn how meat is graded, priced and sold. Producers learn how day-to-day activities like branding, wean- ing, herd handling and vaccination protocols affect the quality and wholesomeness of the product. Beef 706 is another component of state and federal quality as- surance initiatives designed to ensure consumers are offered consistent quality when they purchase beef. Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) helps raise consumer confi dence by demonstrating a commitment to quality in every segment of the beef industry.
