A fine Italian job

The Chamber Orchestra from King Edward’s School, Birmingham, delighted audiences on a tour of Italy during the half term break under the leadership of Peter Bridle

S

ixteen boys from Year 9 to Year 13 entertained large audiences in three concerts across Tuscany in unusual venues - a cathedral in Chiusi (pictured), a theatre in Cita della Pieve, and a sanctuary church in Mongiovino, near Perugia.

The programme included pieces by Mozart, Marcello, Grieg and Rachmaninov and involved solos by two boys who are members of the National Youth Orchestra (NYO),

Robbie Ruisi (violin) and Adam Phillips (oboe). Robbie, who is the Leader of the NYO also played an encore of unaccompanied Bach. The tour party also had the opportunity to visit Siena, Assisi, Cortona, Orvieto, Pienza and Motepulciano. John Claughton, Chief Master of King Edward’s School, said: “This trip has been an unforgetable experience for all the boys, staff and audiences. The quality of the music was truly exceptional.” iE
