Meaningful deadlines 2014 is a big year for EHRs

Abilene family physician Allen Schultz, MD, will attest to Stage 2 meaningful use next year. He encourages physicians to contact their electronic health record vendors now to find out whether their systems have been upgraded to meet new certification requirements.

“This is teaching

an old dog yet another set of tricks.”

BY CRYSTAL ZUZEK If you’re participating in Stage 1 or Stage 2 of the Medicare elec- tronic health record (EHR) incentive program, circle Oct. 1, 2014, on your calendar. That’s the cutoff date for ensuring you’ve upgraded your EHRs to meet Stage 2 product certification requirements. If it’s your first time to attest to meaningful use, you must begin the 90-day EHR reporting period by July 1, 2014, to meet the Oct. 1 deadline and avoid a future penalty.
