he chief executive of cooking appliance manufacturer Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) is set to help north-
west entrepreneurs take their first steps into overseas trade. Denver Hewlett is the latest expert to join UK
Trade and Investment’s (UKTI) network of leaders for the launch of Export Champion 2014, an initiative unique to the north-west designed to offer local businesses peer-to-peer support. As part of his new role, he will provide practical
support and mentoring to local companies and entrepreneurs taking their first steps into international markets. Denver Hewlett has previous export experience,
having led his team’s expansion into more than 13 countries. Last year, GDHA won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category, after overseas sales of its British-made products increased dramatically and was this year named North West Exporter at the Business Masters Awards. GDHA announced its intention to export its
home-grown Stoves, Belling and New World cooking appliances in 2009 and over the past four years has delivered record financial performances, growing its revenues by a total of 880%. During that time it has expanded rapidly in
overseas markets, exporting successfully to Australia, France, Belgium, Cyprus, Malta, South Africa and Holland and, more recently, building relationships with Poland, Germany, Israel and Russia. Denver Hewlett said of the new position: “It’s a fantastic honour to be asked to become an Export
Big Red Sales’ new division strengthens portfolio

he Essentials Division of independent electrical sales network Big Red Sales has won another brand to distribute.
The Division, formed last month to sell fast moving audio goods, has been appointed by British consumer electronics brand Otone Audio to sell its full range of speaker systems. Since its launch last year, Otone has enjoyed a steady sales growth in the CE arena, and recently signed up with Euronics to roll its products out through the independent channel. Big Red Sales director Nick Alsbury said: “We are
delighted to have been appointed by Otone to handle its audio range in view of our excellent relationship with independent retailers, and more recently, of course, through our new Essentials Division.” Gareth Thomas, managing director at Otone
Audio, commented: “We look forward to working with the Essentials Division of Big Red Sales to bring our products to independent electrical retailers, especially with the imminent launch of our new Smart docking range.” In addition to Otone Audio, the Essentials Division handles products for Goodmans and iLuv.
