The posters were developed to provide a visual reminder for operators for how to work safely with different type of materials handling equipment.
They feature easy-to-follow diagrams and description to help improve the safety of all employ- ees in workplace. Manufacturing boards decreasing
New research from global law firm Eversheds has found that board sizes in companies in the industrial manufacturing sector have shrunk by 17 per cent in the last five years, and are a prime example of the global trend towards smaller boards. However, the sector is trailing behind in terms of numbers of women in its boardrooms. A new report, the ‘Eversheds Board Repor: The Effective Board’, brings together analysis of the share price performance of more than 500 top companies across the world between 2011 and 2012 with in-depth interviews with 85 senior board members.
Findings show that a smaller board is consistently related to better company share price perfor- mance across international regions and industry sectors. The indus- trial manufacturing sector, has seen a high rate of reduction in
board size, with boards reducing by 17 per cent in the control group for the sector, compared to the overall average of eight per cent. Nearly all board directors interviewed believe that an effec- tive board should have less than 12 members. Within participants from the industrial manufactur- ing sector, average board size stands at 10.6 directors.
It is in the area of gender where findings for the industrial manu- facturing sector are particularly concerning. The research found that, the industrial manufactur- ing sector has the smallest repre- sentation of female directors, seeing only 8.4 per cent women on its boards. This is well below the global average of 12.8 per cent female directors. To request a copy of ‘Eversheds Board Report: The Effective Board’, please visit:

Dr Peter Ball from Cranfield University, said: “Many compa- nies are reporting significant progress and it is now easy to find brand name companies posting double digit year on year improve- ments in resource efficiency.” The event is jointly organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Cranfield University, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and The Manufacturer magazine.
