Products Health & safety: PPE Protective clothing and interactive online tool to be showcased

At this year's A+A work, health and secu- rity show in Germany in November, DuPont will be showing its expertise in protective clothing that helps people perform at their best. The focus of the company's trade fair presence will be on newly developed Type 3 chemical protective suits, an interactive online tool assisting users in selecting appropriate protective clothing, and innovative heat & flame and arc protective solutions for fire fighters and industrial applications.

In addition, it will be showcasing the range of its Tyvek, Tychem, ProShield and Nomex brands in Düsseldorf.

Among the highlights in the segment of chemical protective clothing will be the

commercial preview of two newly developed Tyvek and Tychem suits. Both combine Type 3 protection with enhanced wear comfort and high freedom of movement. Based on Tyvek material technology, these coveralls are said to afford protection against non- pressurised and pressurised chemical sprays, solid airborne particles, radioactive particles, and biological hazards. DuPont SafeSPEC 2.0 is a new Internet- based tool providing interactive support to safety engineers in selecting the most appropriate chemical protective suit for a given application. It provides extensive product information such as performance characteristics, permeation data, as well as data sheets and literature for download.

DuPont will also present its latest innovations of Nomex fabrics and showcase developments from its Nomex Partners in the field of heat & flame protective apparel for fire fighters, as well as Multi Hazard protection for the thermal industrial market. The product portfolio from DuPont comprises tailor-made solutions protect- ing against a wide range of hazards, from apparel resisting heat and naked flames to protective clothing against impact injuries and cuts, chemicals, biological hazard materials, toxic particles or, quite generally, dirt and dust. Safety boot is a step in the right direction

Metatarsal protective boots have traditionally had a reputation for being inflexible, unsightly and uncomfortable. But if you have ever dropped anything on the top of your foot, you will know exactly the potential damage that can be done to this sensitive part of the body.

In response to customer feedback highlighting the need for a comfortable, flexible metatarsal boot, Arco has developed the Arco Internal Metguard Safety Boot made with Poron XRD foam. Poron XRD is a flexible, contouring and impact absorbing foam that is flexible under normal conditions but under sudden high impact, it instantly firms to create a protective shield. The foam takes the absorption of the strike leaving the foot unharmed. Prior to impact the foam remains comfortable and

non-restrictive as it keeps to its ‘resting’ state. The wearer has maximum and reliable protection on every hit as the molecules in the foam will not break down on impact or over a period of time. The foam is manufactured into the tongue, removing the need for an overlaying level of protection, providing metatarsal protection without affecting the flexibil- ity and ultimately not compromising safety and comfort while maintaining the look of a traditional workboot. The Poron XRD foam also has built in grooved hinges for additional flexibility and comfort and is thin and lightweight, reducing the bulk of the protective shield. The boots conform to the relevant metatarsal protective standards within EN ISO 20345. Arco

Scott Safety’s latest Modular Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) product range is said to allow workers to tailor their res- piratory solution to their require- ments, ensuring maximum user acceptance and protection. Designed as a ‘Pick and Play’ solution, the Modular PAPR system allows users to select from interchangeable blowers, headtops and hoses to ensure they can access the most appropriate respi- ratory protection solution for their needs. Scott Safety can help cus- tomers make the right choice of

respiratory protection with a range of powered air respirators to protect workers from a wide range of respiratory hazards.

The Spirit and Spirit SX powered air respirators, offer advanced electronic controllabil- ity that is fully programmable. Each has an adjustable flow with particle filters from 170l/min to 220l/min with automatic diagnos- tic check at start-up, a large colour display of operating status and a suite of alert, warning and alarm notifications. If using the SX version, airflow is adjustable in precise increments and the smart filter identification automatically recognises and displays filter type and prevents mismatched or badly fitted filters.

The Proflow SC and Tornado powered air respirators complete the range with Proflow offering

an intelligent, easy-to-use solution and Tornado providing filtered air for industrial applica- tions as diverse as industrial welding, agriculture and waste disposal. ATEX versions are available for both. Scott Safety’s headtops and mask ranges are ergonomically designed to provide greater comfort, are compatible with other PPE and are said to offer high levels of protection and reli- able performance. Every FH headtop can be fitted with a choice of hoses and accessories. A wide range of filters are avail- able capable of removing specific airborne contaminants, such as particle, organic (high & low boil- ing points) and inorganic gases. Advanced safety

features in helmet Designed for use in all welding appli- cations, ESAB's new Warrior Tech welding helmet is said to meet the needs of welding professionals requir- ing a high specification, ergonomically designed lightweight helmet that provides protection from dangerous UV/IR radiation, heat and spatter. Critical for any welder is the perfor- mance of the lens and with the Warrior Tech, four welding arc sensors are said to provide high response levels and wider a sensory coverage than many alternatives. It has a large viewing area which is said to increase spatial aware- ness. It features shade adjustment between DIN9 and DIN13 with its auto- matic shade darkening filter (ADF) lens. This lens also gives the welder optimal viewing clarity and optical quality. The helmet is said to offer optimal performance for most fabrication and out-of-position welding. Its sensitivity control is a useful adaptable feature when welding with low amperages, such as when TIG welding, and ensures a better reaction to darker arc light. The delay control allows the welder to set how long the lens stays dark after the welding arc stops. The helmet is ergonomically designed for high operator comfort. ESAB
