What’s happening in the world of M&as and IPos?
Every month at Lawyer Monthly we take a look at what has been happening in the world’s M&a, IPo and fund markets over recent weeks.
Recent reports show that offshore jurisdictions are performing particularly well in the deal mar- kets lately, with the second quarter of 2013 showing positive signs of a gradual return to more stable transactional activity following several years of volatility. Renewed confidence in off- shore transactions and an increase in deals between Q1 and Q2 2013, have been highlighted in the latest Offshore-i Report released last month by Appleby.
The Appleby report shows that M&A activity offshore in the second quarter of 2013 presents a relatively positive picture, with both the number of deals completed and their value remaining broadly consistent compared with Q1, suggesting that there may be some stabilisation of transactional activity levels after the volatility of the last few years.
Taking a look at the mid-markets, the Mid-Market & Small-Cap M&A Legal Reviews Q3 2013 from Thomson Reuters states: “Worldwide announced Mid-Market M&A deals valued up to $500 million (including undisclosed value deals) totaled US$507.5 billion during the first nine months of 2013 – a 2.3% decrease from the comparable period last year.”
The report adds: “The Americas region (by target domicile) led the market, with US$183 billion of announced deal activity, representing a 36% share of the market, down by 10.1% year-on-year. The European region (by target domicile) led the market in terms of deal count, with 8,967 deals during the first nine months, representing 34.4% of the 26,031 deals announced worldwide.”
As we head further into the fourth quarter of the year, it will be interesting to watch and wait to see how the rest of 2013 will progress for this type of activity across the world. LM
