Col. Alfred Asch, USAF (Ret): In May, the state of Tennessee honored Asch, a World War II pilot, with a Tennessee flag that had been flown over the state capitol and an award of recognition signed by Gov. Bill Haslam. At 93 years old, Asch is set to publish a book, The Whole Nine Yards, this month. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in September 1941. During World War II, Asch flew 42 combat missions over Germany. In 1968, he retired as a full colonel.


Lt. Col. Kelly Hilland, ARNG (Life Member since 2006): Hilland earned a Bachelor of Science in organizational management from Nyack College in New York and a Master of Public Administration from Marist College in New York. She received a Bronze Star for her service while deployed to Iraq. Hilland is director of family programs for the New York Army National Guard. She serves on MOAA’s board of directors and Print and Digital Media and Strategic Planning committees.


Adm. James M. Loy, USCG (Ret) (Life Member since 1989): In September, Loy joined the board of directors of the National Coast Guard Museum Association, which will oversee construction of the National Coast Guard Museum in New London, Conn. A graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Loy served as Coast Guard commandant from May 1998 to May 2002, when he retired from military service. He now is a senior counselor for The Cohen Group in Washington, D.C.


Col. George Schrader, USAF (Ret) (Life Member since 1984): In June, Schrader, a 1955 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law, received the university’s Legacy Award for his leadership and service. He served 22 years in the Air Force before retiring in 1976. After the military, Schrader served on the faculty of Auburn University at Montgomery in Alabama, retiring as a professor emeritus. He holds six degrees from five universities and has authored more than 50 articles on law and management. Schrader is active in MOAA’s Montgomery (Ala.) Chapter.
