In August, MOAA leaders, staff, and former leaders (including, Gen. Lou Wagner, USA (Ret), chair of MOAA’s board of directors (BoD) from 1994-96; MOAA President Vice Adm. Norbert R. Ryan Jr., USN (Ret); Gen. John H. Tilelli Jr., USA (Ret), chair of MOAA’s BoD; and Adm. Steve Abbot, USN (Ret), chair of MOAA’s BoD from 2010-12) gathered to dedicate a portrait of Air Force Lt. Col Ezra Harvey Nichols and his wife, Marion, in The Classroom — a conference room at MOAA headquarters honoring supporters of the MOAA Scholarship Fund. “A religious, patriotic, and giving person, Ezra’s generous bequest will serve to inspire and assist military families for generations to come,” reads a note beneath the portrait. Nichols, who died Nov. 4, 2012, at age 97, bequeathed nearly $4.8 million to the fund.
