Chapter Achievements
From the Field:
French Creek Valley (Pa.) Chapter
The 34-member French Creek Valley Chapter in Meadville, Pa., raised $5,550 for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) by hosting a Walk for Warriors 5K. WWP Outreach Coordinator Brace Feldbusch and his wife, Charlene, accepted the donation during the chapter’s July 30 dinner meeting. Members plan to host a second annual Walk for Warriors 5K May 17, 2014, at Woodcock Creek Dam in Saegertown, Pa.
“We have the attention of the community now and hope to get more corporate sponsors for next year’s event,” says chapter Secretary Brig. Gen. Patricia Genung, USA (Ret).
New Jersey Council of Chapters
New Jersey Council of Chapters President Capt. Dale E. Goodreau, USCG (Ret), presented the Outstanding Junior Officer of the Year Award to two officers — 2nd Lt. Candace J. Chase, USAF, and 2nd Lt. Jaquelin Jackson, ANG. Each received a $100 gift card and certificate.
New Jersey chapters that participate in the program nominate junior or company-grade officers. The New Jersey Lakes and Pines Chapter nominated Chase, and the South Jersey Chapter nominated Jackson.
Wichita (Kan.) Chapter
Wichita Chapter members presented certificates and $7,500 in scholarships to six college-bound students who participate in Junior ROTC (JROTC) programs the chapter supports. Cadets Callie Hobkirk, Michael Flynn, and Kent Le each received $1,500 scholarships, and Sarah Bookout, Cristal Magdaleno, and Aujanae McCoy each received $1,000 scholarships.
“These cadets are the best of the best and future leaders in our community,” says Lt. Col. C.G. “Terry” Berk, USA (Ret), Wichita Chapter immediate past president. “The chapter is honored to assist them in achieving their advanced education goals.”
Imperial Polk County (Fla.) Chapter
The Imperial Polk County Chapter hosted its annual ROTC award banquet in May. Approximately 200 chapter members, JROTC instructors, district school officials, and cadets and their families attended the event, along with Florida U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross. Ross presented MOAA medals and certificates to the top cadet in each of the 13 JROTC programs the chapter supports.
In addition, chapter members represent MOAA and recognize the top JROTC cadet during each high school’s annual award program. Members also will begin supporting six new middle school JROTC-type citizenship programs.
