o those of us who hail from northern states, October means a forest of colors. Now

living in Florida, how often we try—or yearn—to experience the remembered beauty of Autumn! A landscape of reds, golds, oranges and—yes—evergreens, too, soothes the eye with its shades and patterns. Our October array of articles is,

also, an offering of various colors—meant to catch our eye and turn our thoughts inward. The authors in seeking answers to questions we all encounter, lead us to goals and solutions for ourselves. A doctor examines our individual search for ways to deal with cancer, a present or future concern. The answer (p.28) is that, yes, we can be proactive in many ways!....An environmentalist (p.32) inspires us to fi nd our own worthy cause with her devotion to make a difference—and her testimony that “Service is core to my being.”….An advocate for long-distance walking (p.34) extols the challenges and satisfactions of making our own pilgrimages….An author/philosopher (p.36) advises that how we use our TIME is a personal decision which can bring fulfi llment or frustration. All in all, in this edition you will fi nd a kaleidoscope

of worthy messages which can enhance the colors of our daily lives.

Natural Awakenings practices environmental sustainability by using postconsumer recycled paper and soy-based ink on uncoated stock. This choice avoids the toxic chemicals and high energy costs of producing shiny, coated paper that is hard to recycle.
