Welcome...
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that one in ten of us will be diagnosed with breast cancer in our lifetime and more than 2,700 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed amongst women in Ireland each year, according to the National Cancer Registry Ireland, making breast cancer the most diagnosed cancer in the country.

Whilst these statistics are shocking, data also shows an 85%five-year relative survival rate, which is incredibly encouraging.
Whilst raising money for the many worthy breast cancer charities is vital, with this
month being the ideal time, awareness amongst ourselves is also incredibly important. Too often in our industry we care for others and neglect our own well-being, so I was thrilled to discover the free Breast Cancer Ireland iPhone App, which offers a step-by-step video of how to carry out your breast health check and sends you a discreet monthly reminder, as well as enabling you to make a donation to the charity. “It’s important from a young age to get into the habit of examining your breasts once a month, understanding what is ‘normal’ for you, so that if an abnormality arises, it will be immediately detected,” explains Aisling Hurley from Breast Cancer Ireland. It’s a really simple tool, so I urge you to make use of it and take care of yourself.
And for readers keen to donate a few euros to a worthy cause this month, you can download a copy of Liz McKeon’s eBook Beauty is, which documents 20 success stories from the Irish beauty industry with proceeds going to the Marie Keating Foundation – visit
