The story of Fuschia Make-Up first begins in 2005. In order to peruse and purchase make-up for her kit, Gillian Moore-Brady would undertake regular trips from her hometown of Drogheda, County Louth to the capital city of Dublin. Recognising that many others were no doubt embarking on similar journeys, Gillian spotted a niche in the market. There appeared to be a real need to open a stand-alone cosmetics store in her local area, saving women the hassle of travelling far and wide to satisfy their make-up requirements.
Having also long-harboured ambitions of developing a high-quality yet affordable mineral make-up line, Gillian wanted to provide clients with a comprehensive make-up service and not simply a concession stand within a department store. “Fuschia Make-Up wants to provide a complete make-up experience by satisfying our customers’ every need,” explains Gillian. “From makeovers and products to courses and bridal call outs – everything is as natural as possible, wearable from day to night and provided by professional, qualified make- up artists.”

In 2005, Gillian’s dream became a reality when the company’s first retail store opened in the Scotch Hall Shopping Centre in Drogheda. It proved to be an instant success and it wasn’t long before the rest of the country began to sit up and take notice of the new home-grown brand. Soon, women from across Ireland were travelling to the town specifically to visit Fuschia Make-Up. Here, they were able to not only try and test the products on offer, but they could also speak directly to the experienced team who were on-hand to offer expert advice and recommendations.
Make-up for the
modern woman Today, the Fuschia range features every make-up item that the modern woman could possibly desire – foundations, blushes, eyeshadows, lipsticks, lipglosses, bronzers, eye pencils, mascara plus much more. “Mineral make-up is hugely important to Fuschia and the Loose Mineral Foundation is the most popular product,” reveals Gillian. Other best-selling items include the Brow Wax Kit, Jumbo Buffer Brush and the Gel Eyeliner, which was honoured with an IMAGE magazine award in 2010.
Due the brand’s ever-growing popularity, Fuschia offerings can now be found in over 250 beauty salons across Ireland. The Drogheda location is still going strong and thanks to the company’s drive and determination over the past eight years, a second retail store opened in May 2013 within the Swords Pavilions, Dublin. Further expansion has also seen the company go international, with Fuschia products now being distributed in the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Launching a make-up range can be an exciting yet challenging process,
especially in an industry where cosmetics lines are in such abundance. So how has Fuschia managed to not only breakthrough the market but remain so successful? “It’s our true love for make-up and our ability to provide products which complement Irish skin tones,” responds Gillian. “The pigments in the shadows and blush colours are very high. The mineral products are truly good for your skin, containing no talc or parabens and protecting the skin whilst you wear it.
“Also the service that we provide outshines the rest, as our knowledge and advice on all products is second to none. Fuschia Make-Up constantly strives to excel in customer service,” adds Gillian.
In addition to its product range, Fuschia has its very own make-up school which, from the outset, has proved much in- demand. It caters not only to beauty professionals looking to further increase their skill sets but also non-professionals, women who would simply like to learn more about cosmetics and how to apply them correctly. “We also have a strong network of colleges throughout the country that use the brand,” says Gillian.
