distributors in more than 90 countries, operating from the 34-floor Doosan Tower in Seoul’s Dongdaemun district. For many years Doosan was best

known for its capable engine counter- balance products, but that’s only one part of the story now. Doosan is one of the few companies offering a forklift for all materials handling requirements, from the LED series of pedestrian and ride-on pallet trucks, to the 16-ton D160S-5, the biggest forklift Doosan brings into Europe, designed for heavy or extended loads, cabins, and smaller or empty containers. In the middle of the range are industry workhorses such as the diesel-engined, three-ton D30S-5, Doosan’s biggest-selling UK model. The combination of enhanced product range, unbeatable reputation for quality, and extraordinary cost-effectiveness, helped Doosan Industrial Vehicle enjoy a record year for sales and global market- share in 2012. And since September 2013 Doosan Industrial Vehicle (DIV) has been wholly owned by Doosan Corporation, underwriting the depth of a corporate commitment to keep developing innovative forklifts that are simply the best tools for every job.
Simple, powerful performance Perhaps the biggest reason for DIV’s success is that, while all manufactur- ers claim on quality and performance, Doosan really delivers it through its unique approach to design and manufacturing. Guiding this is a strong
philosophy of the ‘simple powerful performance fork- lift’, achieved through an extraordinary commitment to R&D, very tight control of manufacturing processes, and exclusive availability to

ince producing its first forklifts for the Korean domestic market in 1968, DIV has grown to support a sales network of nearly 400
source best-in-class technologies and components within the Doosan Group. A very important example of this is
the new ‘G2’ diesel engine unveiled at IMHX earlier this year. Developed by Doosan Infracore, this cost-effective powerplant meets the forthcoming EU Stage IV emissions requirement (and US EPA Tier 4) by employing exhaust- gas recirculation (EGR) to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) formation, plus an exclusive Doosan innovation, Ultra-Low PM Combustion, which reduces the emission of particulates without the need for expensive filter systems. The G2 is the world’s first forklift engine in the 2.5-ton class that meets these tough
new emissions standards and will be introduced into the Doosan forklift range in late 2013. However, all Doosan forklifts – diesel, LPG and electric – are already designed for optimum efficiency and frugality, to reduce costs while also benefiting the environment.
Operator comfort and safety For Doosan, performance is not only about the product itself, but also the operator and the business in which it is used. Tim Waples, director and general manager of DIV UK, says: “When it comes to innovations in design, the start point – and the end point – always must be meeting our customers’ needs. Our 7 Series Reach Truck, for
example, includes an operator cabin with the lowest entry step of its class (350mm), plus keyless keypad entry to prevent unautho- rised access. It also permits performance and speed settings to be programmed to suit each driver or working environment.”
Range for everyone But DIV forklifts are not only the best tools for the job –

they also have one of the lowest total ownership costs of any manufacturer. Advanced powertrains keep down energy consumption. The intrinsic durability and reliability conferred by Doosan’s design and manufacturing approach minimises maintenance requirements. A UK-based spare parts operation minimises downtime. And fundamental consideration of operator efficiency also boosts the bottom line.
Looking to the future To create a better product, what’s most important is focusing on the people who make, and buy, the product. And this is continually reinforced by the Doosan Credo, to which all employees subscribe. The Credo’s central message is that “our customers are the reason Doosan exists”. This is clearly manifested in the incredibly strong relationships with customers built by Doosan’s dealers across the UK. The next year will witness great
things from Doosan, including the new range of G2 diesel engines, an upgraded Economy GX Range from the brand new purpose-built factory in China, stand-on reach trucks, pedestrian reach stackers, and a whole host of additional warehouse trucks. These will continue to make materials handling more productive and cost-effective across the wide range of customer markets that Doosan supplies.
