PARADE OF JUNIOR CHAMPIONS TJ Nyman took a two-year break from Na-
tional Showcase to work on his freestyle skating, but showed that he still possesses that wow factor in capturing the junior title in the 13-skater field. Nyman took a page from the King of Rock
‘n’ Roll and performed a program to Elvis Presley. He used a jailhouse prop and prisonstripes to sell the routine. “One of my mom’s (also TJ’s coach) old stu- dents did something similar and he won,” Ny- man, 13, said. “So she decided she wanted me to

do it and I thought it would be cool. I like Elvis.” In 2010, Nyman won the junior title at age
10, performing to “I Can Do Tat” from A Cho- rus Line. Representing the Space Coast Iceplex FSC,
Nyman has elevated his freestyle skating and now possesses a double Axel and other difficult tricks. “I’ve been focusing on improving my free- style skating and got to practice some of those changes for nationals under the spotlight at
