<< Figure 6: Integration of a cutting frame enables both tubes and planar components to be cut. Tools are changed by a reference system. >>
This approach means that processing is not limited to tubular parts ‘from the bar’. Integration of an additional swivel axis provides a practical solution for highly dynamic 5-axis processing, for example for injection nozzles or flow components (compact turbine blades, blisks, impellers) (figure 5).
From tubes to thin sheets The latest development from Swisstec is the Multi Flexible Sheet (MFS) machine series, which have an integrated cutting frame for small high precision parts instead of the rotary axis (figure 6), and even an option to add a belt feed. Based on the modular MFT series, it provides a cost-effective and flexible introduction to the world of high precision processing of fine and thin sheets. The machines use a 4-axis kinematic system with dynamic linear motors and direct position sensors, with the sheets clamped in the frame and fed by a workpiece changing system.
As well as their modular design, the hallmark of all Swisstec machines is their exceptionally compact solid granite
construction. For example, the footprint of the MFT 80 model is just 0.8 x 0.8 m2 including all peripheral units. Integrated into the
ultra-compact housing is either a fibre laser with an output of up to 200 W or a femtosecond laser with a rated output of 10 W. The MFT 80 covers the upper end of the output range, while opening the way for easy access to processing with industrial femtosecond lasers.
